Furrow that runs across cheek  May 12, 2003

I've been doing the program for several months and have seen a very big difference in facial sagging (lost 50 pounds and didn't start face exercising until 11/2002 at 48).

My question is: Is there a specific exercise to help plump out the furrow that runs from the tear duct down across to the right or left side of the cheek. This is different than just the orbital furrow that often sinks in - is a part of it - although some younger people at 30-35 can begin to have this small indentation/furrow that runs from the corner of the tear duct down and across the cheek diagonally about 1+" below the outer edge of the eye orbit. Any feedback would be appreciated!

My experience after 1 yr of Flexing  Aug 13, 2001

Hi Deb or Jason,

First of all, I would appreciate my gratefulness and thanks to you for the wonderful Flexeffect programme and the  discussion board which is ever so helpful. I have   been doing most of the exercises on the video daily for over a year now and the results greatly surpass my expectations.
At the age of 41, I have now got rid of all facial sag and my skin has greatly approved, although, unfortunately, I am a heavy smoker. People are very surprised when they find out about my age.

I now have 2 questions:

Can I maximise the effects by doing half of the exercises on one day, doubling the amount of sets; and doing the other half on the next day, again doubling the amount of sets. I am asking this because a 48-hour break is recommended for intensive bodybuilding exercises. Does the same principle apply to facial muscles?

I am planning to get a deep peeling (not the "blue peeling") in a beauty parlor in order to get rid of some age spots. I was told that after one day, my skin would peel off and that the "new skin" would appear after two or three days. For how long should I interrupt the Flexeffect programme, given the
sensitivity of the "new" skin?Thank you very much in advance for your help,Best regards,

Petra

Hi Petra

You can work your routines in any number of combinations that you like, especially once you've achieved your goal. I regularly do mine three to four times a week.

To be sure when you can resume the exercises, ask your PS or dermatologist when you can have a full facial. It's at this point that you can begin flexing again. Usually will be about three months depending upon the depth of the peel.

Jason

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your reply. I phoned the beauty parlor today and they confirmed that a full facial should not be made before 3 months. I therefore cancelled the appointment for a peeling. I cannot imagine not doing the exercises for 3 months! The results are too good, both in terms of muscle strength and complexion. Also, I find doing the exercises very relaxing.

All the best,
Petra

2 month up-date  Aug 8, 2001

Hi, just wanted to share the changes I'm experiencing after 2 months of flexing.  I'm 37 and have some facial sag and wrinkles setting in.  I am doing most of the 40 exercises in the book, every day.  I do 3 sets each for 30 counts.

Although the verticle lines between my brows and nasolabial folds are not showing any improvement at this point, the annoying crease above my upper lip has!  It is definately diminishing.

By far the most surprising thing to me is the overall thickening happening to my skin EVERYWHERE.  It feels like there is a thin, rubber mat underneath.  I don't know how else to describe it.  My eyelids feel like pads instead of thin pieces of skin. My eyeliner is going on much smoother beacause the skin close to the lash line is smoother now.  I love it!

I want to thank all of you who write in with their progress.  It has really helped me tremendously in staying motivated.  I did experience some "awkward" times and just kept working through them because of all the encouragemnet I found here.

Also wanted to mention that Kevin's tip on opening your mouth when doing the lower lid lift really helps.  I found early on that I got more resistance doing the exercise this way.

Lower Face Sag   Jul 13, 2001

Hi Everyone,

I'm in need of some more encouragement. My upper cheeks--well, one in particular--are starting to build, but it is not affecting the lower area at all. And the problem is that I really don't know how much more I want to build my upper cheeks--particularly on the one side that is more robust right now. To achieve the look that I'm really going for along my jawline and the lower front part of my face, I need to pull some of the skin back up. So, my question is: Will the lower part actually be
pulled up by building the upper part?? I haven't seen any evidence of this yet. Someone please tell me that it worked for you! I'm not giving up, of course, but I'm feeling quite discouraged about this. I'm constantly moving the skin up where I want it and waiting and waiting for the day when it will
actually BE there! I pray I'm not waiting in vain.

PS> Still working on those sassa-frassin folds too! I think I see minute improvement at the top of one fold.

Hi Lynne!

I do not want to discourage you and don't be discouraged, but for me, this took almost a year of flexing to see marked improvement in lower face sag...but IT IS EVIDENT and continuing to improve.  (I will never have the firmness I had at 30..or even 40...but the improvement is extremely noticeable from what it was one year ago).  I hope that gives you incentive to really go after that area.   I held off building upper cheeks here and there along my travels...than continued back...then held off again and so on....you can tell when you are at the build you desire.   Just hold off them for awhile, or do less counts...or every 3rd night or something...you will hit a 'balance' that is workable for you.The things I notice most now are the absence of the little pockets sides of mouth....and a more 'defined' jaw line..lessening of jowls and just firmer, better tone and appearance in lower face area. BUT I STILL HAVE SOME SAG....which I did not expect to eliminate without surgery totally.   I don't plan to HAVE any surgery...so I will keep on flexin'!  but bottem line, yes! it is very much improved!  when you build up your neck muscles (and I say when here, not if..as you can) it will define your 'look' moreso even --making the overall appearance that much more satisfactory to you.  I am not saying you cannot eliminate sag altogether because since I am not altogether finished...and never will be...I don't know that yet. Just keep at it..

Jean

...Hi, Jean, I don't know if this is exactly related to Lynne's original post, but Jason said a few days ago that the neck exercises seem to pull everything together, and I've noticed that, too. For some reason, spending a little extra effort on the neck exercises seems to make all the others work better for me. So even if I break up my regimen into two or even three sessions in a day, I've started doing the neck exercises at every session. Since I'm still new at this, I may decide to back off of them
after a while, but right now they seem to be a sort of jump-start for all the other movements.

People our age...  Jul 11, 2001

Hi, everyone, I just had a great comment yesterday from someone who doesn't know me. A guy in his early 30s said something to me about "people our age." I'm 47 next month, and I don't think he
really believes that I'm 32, but it is clear he thought I'm younger than I am. I've said this here before, but I believe I looked a little younger than my age until about 40 or 41, and then I started aging fast. I did some facial isometrics that helped a little, but I wasn't very disciplined with them, and they didn't begin to do what FlexEffect is doing. Some days I look in the mirror and just can't believe how my face, my skin and my whole look is improving. I've only been doing it about 2 months, and I have a long way to go, but it's encouraging to see improvement that is apparent to others as well as to me. Also something that really helps my FlexEffect is to sleep on my back. I don't like to do it, and often I don't do it, but when I do, I wake up with the effects of the exercises much more apparent than when I wake up with pillow marks and puffy face from sleeping on my side or stomach.

David
IP: 65.69.97.75

Hi David!

me too...this is a little crazy, but I had such a time adjusting to sleeping on my back that every pm before I went to sleep I would tell myself:  I love sleepin on my back,,I enjoy sleeping on my back...I am more rested sleeping on my back etc etc etc...whatever.....actually, this seemed to work after awhile! lol. Now I sleep on my back!..at least I guess I do; I wake up there...and no more pillow puss, or puffy stuff!  It is beneficial to sleep on ones back.

Jean

Hi Jean

Old habits die hard & its great to hear you were able to break it with some "self-talk".  Was wondering if you use a pillow?   Some say you shouldn't use one, others say its ok but it should
be quite flat, and others say to use a neck roll.  My main problem with laying on my back is the pull I feel in the back of my knees.  Do you experience this?  Using a pillow under the knees is suppose to help, but sometime during the nite the pillow ends up on the floor and Im on my side again!

To help with the morning puffy eyes I use a flat pillow tucked between the mattress and box springs to elevate my head a bit.

Terri

Hi. Terri

You can do ANYTHING if the incentive is strong enough. lol.....no, I don't think I could sleep without a pillow...but I do use a satin one..in case I lapse and turn on the side of my face! no pillow creases ever with satin or silk pillow. I sleep with 2 pillows...I don't think you are 'supposed' to do this, but I have done it since grade school!  yes, I often slap a pillow under knees..and like you, by morning it has traveled to some other location.  I suppose we could tie it on, but probably cut off our circulation or something.  You can just do so much you know.  lol.  Just repetitiously really attempt to sleep on your back and convince yourself is a good thing (it is)...and eventually your brain will get the message.

Still Improving!  Aug 2,2001

Hi,

I continue to be amazed at the effectivness of Flexeffect.  I don't know why but I didn't expect to see much more improvement after I got to the one year mark.  It has now been 15 mths and like Sadie I am also seeing dramatic changes.  Its like after all these months things are really coming together and I'm really seeing the payoffs now of sticking with this program.  It's so exciting to me.  Especially when I have never stuck with anything I start before.  I love to start a new project but
rarely see it through.  Usually just get bored and quit!  Well I definitely will stay with this program for life.  It works!  Even my bad trouble areas are coming around.  I especially see a big improvement in my under eye hollows.  I had pretty much figured I had taken it as far as it was going to go but I was wrong!   They have filled out so much compared to when I first began.  And those folds from nose to mouth!  I can't believe the improvement I am seeing!  They were really bad, runs in the family.  So much better now! Just wanted to share my excitement with you all.  Oh and one more thing.  I have been trying the samples of the trireduction cremes from Skin Bio.  I've been using the exfoliater and the trireduction basic on a scar I've had on my cheek.  I've had this scar for years and in just three short weeks of using this stuff my scar is now a quarter of the size it was and has flattened out.  This really amazed me!  This is truly another product that lives up to its claims.

Hi Bonnie

It's just plain bodybuilding... NO DIFFERENCE...   you  step into a gym,  begin lifting weights, start increasing muscle size... little by little you'll began to see changes taking place. Within a year or so, your whole body has taken on a new look (not just bigger biceps etc.) what I call a seasoned look (one who looks like they train... healthy, firm, fit).   Whatever made anyone think our faces would be any different???

It only gets better girl.  Thanks for the report.

Deb:0)

Hi Bonnie.

I'm just curious as to how many days a week you do the exercises and do you do all of them?  At first I thought we were supposed to do them everyday but now it sounds like we should only do them 5 times a week.

Jo Anne

Hi Jo Anne,

I do all the exercises on the video plus every exercise that has been posted on this board from the book.  I don't as yet have the book but plan to get it when my finances improve.  When I first began I tried to do the exercises everyday.  Now I do them five days a week.

No longer discouraged  Jul 6, 2001

Was really discouraged not seeing the results I hoped for after 2 l/2 mo of flexing, but I had the most encouraging 4th of July.

I dreaded showing my face in broad sunny daylight because that lower furrow looked worse than ever to me and the tiny starburst wrinkles on the upper mouth cast a dark shadow like a mustache.
Oh well, I went to the picnic anyway.

A gal, 20 yrs. my jr., came over to apologize.  She asked me to forgive her if I happened to notice that she's been staring at me lately (I see her once a wk.)  She said "You are so beautiful, I just cant help it".  Me!  I was shocked, especially because she's a Mary K rep who deals with lots of truly "beautiful people" and she is so young herself. Its got to be because of flexing, I thought.

Then I saw my sister-in-law who hasn't seen me since I started flexing.  She told me I looked good and that something was definitely different about me.  As we talked she kept studying me, and after about 2 hrs she figured it out.  Where are your nose-to-mouth lines, they're gone--is it the exercises you told me about?  (I do still have a faint line, but hardly noticable). I showed her how to do the exercise for it, and suggested she check out Flexeffect on line for herself.

That evening, no longer discouraged, I remebered it was the anniversary of my first date with my husband 31 years ago!

Wow, Terri.

That's great!!!   I, too, didn't see any difference.  I've been flexing since February.   I was taking pictures once a month  (actually 2 pics) but then ran out of poloroid film.  I recently had my picture taken for my ID at work and I look like a different person!!   This is so great.  I'm still waiting for my
first, in person compliment though.  I'll report when it happens.  Well, I did get a compliment back a couple of months ago but they didn't notice I looked any different so I don't know  if that counts.  I might have just had a good day!!!  :)

Rita

Hi Terri,

It feels good, doesn't it.  Especially knowing that all that hard work is beginning to pay off!! I went to buy some alcohol yesterday for the camping trip this weekend. (Yes, I know it's bad for your face, body, hair, life, etc......but on rare occasions ya hafta live, ya know). The girl at the counter was
only 26 years old. She asked to see my ID. When she saw my birthdate on my license, she was totally amazed. She said she thought I was a lot younger than she was and then asked me if I
get carded a lot. I said that it had become a fairly frequent occurrence on the rare occasions that I go out. Nice feeling, yeah?  And it helps to keep ya motivated. So you go, girl! :-)

Very pleased with results   Jun 29,2001

I've been flexing since the beginning of May (2001) and am very pleased and amazed by the quick results, especially my neck area. I can see also that my jowls have greatly improved and my entire
jawline has become much more defined. My neck was rather baggy and saggy, but not any more! I'm a believer (like the song says)! This is far better than surgery because it's natural. I try to do
the exercises every day, although I don't do all 40, and have been adding reps to the exercises for those particular areas I want to see the most results in.  Is this okay to do, especially the head lift, which I really feel?  Also, how does one learn to teach these exercises? I'd love to show people at my local gym.  Thanks!

Tess
IP: 167.10.240.18

Hi Tess,

May I be the first to formally congratulate you! I started about 6 weeks ago now and am still waiting for some results. (I haven't given up!) I'm happy for you! Keep on keepin' on. As for the gym question, I had the same thought. Once I get results, I think that I'd love to share the ideas with others. I was thinking about some of the women at my local gym. I'm sure we'd have to ask Debbie's permission and of course, to connect the people with the program so that they'd buy the product. Debbie might have some sort of quiz or something that she'd have you take so that she could be sure you're teaching the exercises properly. We wouldn't want to show people the wrong thing!

1 1/2 yr of flexing and no results Jun 26, 2001

Hi everyone,

I would like ALL flexors not to be shy and respond to this message. I've been flexing for 1 1/2 years with almost no detectable improvement. One good thing, I haven't gotten new wrinkles (thank God!). In other words, I haven't gotten worse or better. However, my neck is still a little loose - never tightened even though it wasn't so bad that it needed surgery. The bottom line is that non of my problems were at a point I need plastic surgery. They were at a point where flexing should have
helped.

Flexing is a time consuming procedure. For me to continue, I need to hear from not only the advocates but the unsure flexors as well.

Thanks for your feedback,
Jamie
IP: 165.121.117.101

Hi Jamie

I am just curious if you took pictures...before flexing and after.  Although I would think after 1 1/2 yrs you would notice some kind of improvement even so.  If you don't mind my asking what is your age?  Did you have any sag at the start?  I am 47 and have been doing the exercises for 14 mths.   I do notice improvements but still hope to see more.  So I will continue.   Actually I'm happy with what I have achieved so far.  But there are still areas that need work. I do think pictures really help us to see what progress we've made.   I did not take pictures but a friend took some of me and my kids over the holidays and gave them to me.  That's when I could really see the improvements.  They weren't so noticeable to me in the mirror but quite apparent in the pictures. Also the way I look at it this exercise program is preventative as well as rehabilitative.  So I figure I've held off another years
worth of muscle atrophy.  Its what keeps me going along with the improvements.

Bonnie

Hi Jamie

I, too, am curious if you took pics? or have any pics taken before you began flexing?   Also, curious if you did the 'test' in Deb's book...re: how much loose skin you can pinch or whatever.prior to flexing...then into flexing, etc.  I have been flexing almost one yr., am 58...and though all is not 'perfection;'it never was to start with!   Improvement however is noticeable and ongoing.  Did you do all the ex? daily?..increase count? double up? do variations therein?  Did you do all of the neck ex that are mentioned in workshop and elsewhere?  I am curious also.....keep us posted.

Jean

Hi Jamie

How often do you flex?  Its hard to believe that you would diligently persist with the exercises for l l/2 years without any results!   That's dedication.  What results were you expecting to be accomplished?

I was just thinking today that I need some encouragement to keep up the flexing after only 2 mo. My bottom furrow line has become longer & a new line has branched off of it.  Im hoping one of two
things is happening. l. They say that sometimes an area seems worse for a time before you see improvement or 2. Im not performing the exercise correctly.  I hope the set-back is just temporary.  I too could use a "keep at it girl"!!! Long time flexers have you experienced a similar situation with a problem area?

Terri

Hi Jamie,

Sorry to hear that Jamie. Is this your first time on the board in 1 1/2 years? Sincerely, I'm not trying to be rude at all, but if you were having such trouble obtaining results, I just wonder why I have never heard from you before. Were you consistent in your training schedule? What exercises were you doing? Some or all?

While I am a certified trainer, I receive NO compensation for my time on the board, so if it didn't work for me I would have NO reason to be supportive. I love FlexEffect and will continue to
perform the exercises for the rest of my life.  The only thing I can say is that it works for me.

Jason

Hi Jamie

I started flexing a little over a year ago. I was 38+.  I too was at a point where I certainly didn't need plastic surgery,  but I was beginning to see the first signs of aging: my lips were thinning slightly, my eyelids were the tiniest bit droopy, my cheeks were more hollow, and my neck was starting to sag.  In the year that I've been doing flexeffect, I have most definitely noticed a turn-around everywhere except my neck. All the sagging I noticed in my face has reversed (though my cheeks are not quite as full as they were in my twenties).  The only real problem remaining is my neck.  I must say that I have worked VERY hard during the last year.  Not just in terms of frequency (6-7 days/wk)  but in terms of the effort I've put into each session(concentration, long counts, etc.) Yes, it is definitely
time-consuming, but now it has become part of my day, like any exercise routine.  I should also point out that my skin was always in good condition, from diligent sun-avoidance over the years--so maybe that played a role.  It is only my neck that continues to frustrate me...and I don't know what's up with that...

Ann

Hi Ann,

Like you, my neck area appears worse than any other area. I do every neck exercise I can think of including some I've invented for my work outs at the gym. I sure wish I could hear about some
innovative approaches for the neck. What about Dermal Tone and there is also a neck exerciser (forgot the name) that you place under neck and squeeze against it.

Good luck! I'm continuing to exercise even though I don't see results - just in case I'd look worse if I stopped - who knows. And I want to thank everyone for their encouragement and responses. But, gosh, I sure wish I could tighten my neck!! It bothers me more than any area on my face.

Take care,
Jamie

Hi Jamie:

I'm 47. I've been flexing for nearly 17 months and there's no way I'll quit.  No, I don't look 25, but realistically I think I look better than what I did 17 months ago and hate to think how I would look today had I not discovered flexeffect. Older, I'm sure. I, too have had a problem with my neck and exercise has helped that area, however, in my situation this is genetic and I find that if I cut back on fat intake, the sag nearly disappears, however, diet alone doesn't work for me WITHOUT exercise.  Of all the improvements I've made, the improvement I'm pleased with the most is the jowl area and how defined it looks.  My stubborn areas are the top furrow and the line between the eyebrows.  These areas look better but have not totally gone away, but I'm not worried about it because it looks
better than it did.  I feel lucky to know these exercises because I feel I'm in on a secret that the majority of women don't even know about that works.

One thing you might want to try is to stop flexing for a month or two and see how you look.  Hopefully you'll appreciate how you looked while you flexed.

Becky

Hi Becky

That's a good suggestion! Before and after pictures are best but if you've forgotten to take them and need absolute proof after flexing for over a year taking several months off should definitely tell you how much you were able to gain or maintain while doing the program.

To Sadie Re: improvement   Jun 24, 2001

Hi Sadie,

I recall from an earlier post that you began to see a significant improvement at about 18 months of flexing.  I was wondering if you started to do anything different like doubling up or increasing repetitions.  I am at 14 months now and am hoping to still see some improvement.  Did you have alot of loose skin to begin with or was your face fairly toned?  I had a lot of loose skin from weight loss and much of it has tightened, but have a ways to go.  Thanks.

Ellen
IP: 198.81.17.46

Hi Ellen,

There were improvements all along, say from month 2 or 3, but I did notice the most dramatic improvements after the one year mark. I hadn't lost any weight so I didn't have loose skin. What
I noticed about my face for several years before I began flexing was that it appeared to be "sliding down"--I don't think "sagging" is the right word because it didn't appear to be loose, just that everything on my face was getting a pronounced downward slant.

As far as more repetitions, etc., I do two sets of each exercise on particular trouble spots. Do you use anything topically (Retin A, copper peptide, emu oil, vitamins, etc?)on your face? Do you
exercise and eat a good diet including supplements? Drink lots of water? I would imagine all these would help with your skin. What improvements have you seen thus far on your face?

Sadie

Hi Sadie,

Thanks for your response.  I started using Skin Biology products (CP serum, Emu oil, glycolic cream) since February.  I have seen some improvement and will continue to use.  I think my biggest
problem was that I lost weight too quickly, resulting in alot of loose skin and muscle atrophy from being on bed rest during pregnancy.  Up till this time, I have looked about 10 years younger than my age (I am now 42).  My skin has actually gotten worse since I started Flexeffect in April of last year.
My face looks more lifted however, so I will continue.  I don't attribute my skin condition to flexing
because I feel that something else was taking place in my body during the time that it was getting bad.  Free radical damage I think.  I was eating poorly and having perimenapausal symptoms like waking up dehydrated and having cold sweats at night.  I have improved my diet and started lite exercise.  Perhaps in my case I have more to reverse than the average person my age.   Thanks for sharing your experience.  It's been helpful.

Ellen

Hi Ellen

Hi Ellen!

You may want to try Retin A to help tighten up your skin?

Sadie

BTW Ellen,

You may want to try Dr. Perricone's DMAE stuff. I asked Dr. Pickart about it on the board but he says he can't find any published studies on it. It's supposed to tighten up the loose skin. Sorry I don't have any links...

Optimum Effects Jun 18, 2001

Hi,

Just wondering, if the exercises are performed daily how long should it take to reach the best results a person should expect? I have been doing all forty exercises daily for the last four-five months and am very pleased with the results I have obtained so far, my face is very firm and have achieved noticeable muscle  growth in the cheek and eye areas. Should I expect to see continued improvement or is it usual to reach a plateau where results are just maintained? Any experiences from long term Flexers would be great!

Rah
IP: 62.252.224.5

Hi Rah

Hi!  It is my personal experience that the longer time frame you do the exercises in, the more the benefits.  I am (almost) to the one year mark and results are far more dramatic than at, say, 3 mos....5 mos, etc etc.   In my case, I believe optimal response is not realized fully until well into the one yr mark and beyond...depending on condition you began with!  A lot has to do with extent of sun damage, atrophy, age, etc. when you start...determines somewhat how long ongoing results will be forthcoming....stay with it; you will be pleased.  In order to see results, you have to faithfully participate in the outcome!  Just be persistent is best approach. lol.  you WILL be glad you
remained persistent.  Flexing isn't anywhere near an 'instant fix', you will see results almost right away; however, while some problem areas are going to take you longer..just like in any exercise regimen.  Nothing happens overnight. (wish it did!)   You will be so pleased that you will be encouraged to stay with it!

Jean

Hi All

Once I saw some before/after photos online for that little mouth excersizer...the plastic do-dad with the elastics? And the pictures of a woman after FIVE year's use were most dramatic. Sooo...I surmise from that photo that perhaps the longer the better? :-)

My progress so far Jun 9, 2001

Hi.  This is so exciting for me.  I've always had dark circles under my eyes and tried every concealer out there to cover them, and I had a lot of puffiness.  I tried cucumbers which I've heard work, but made everything worse.  Then 3 months ago, I started doing Lower Lid Lift twice a day and tonight I went to buy a concealer and the girl told me that I don't need a heavy one because they're only for people with dark circles.  To me that was the best complement I've had in a long time.  I've been
doing the other exercises too and I've seen some nice results but I doubled up on the Lower Lid Lift.  I just wanted to share that because I've seen so many people concerned with under the eye.  The exercises really do work and the area under my eye is so smooth looking now.

Jo Anne
IP: 152.163.206.182

Hi Jo Anne:

I had same problem; took me longer than 3 mos., so you are really doing great with it.  The diff here is really nice. I rarely even have to use concealer any longer..just now and again I use very lightly (Laura Mercier) as I find it 'slips' well and seems very light.  I used to buy concealer like other people buy loaves of bread..I had an entire arsenal of under eye concealers of which none of them actually worked longer than l0 minutes, tops!  lol.  Congrats!  I nearly jumped out of my skin
when this area began to 'show' real progress!

Neck Exercise Jun 5, 2001

Just want to share my neck.  lol.  The area I thought initially was a total wash-out and no amount of anything would improve it. Deb's exercises have!  Plus the skin on my neck is looking better and better, but the build up under chin area is the most impressive to me.  Took long time and I still want to build further.....but I got one of those super short haircuts with wispys in front of ears and close to my head in back with little wisps at hairline.  I could have never carried off a haircut like this a year ago.  My hairstylist said: quote:  You have such a pretty neck and such tiny ears, why don't we try...... so there you have it!  thanks to flexing!! {NO ONE has ever told me I have a 'pretty neck').  I could have never worn a short, short haircut previously.  I know neck is hard area for most of us
older flexers....even though I have read it is 'easiest place to build'....was not easy for me!  So, if you are having difficulties with neck area or discouraged, take heart!!!

Jean

Hi Jean

That's great!  You and all of the "Flexers" have been so helpful, such an inspiration and have taught me so much.  This is such a wonderful web site - it's actually a lifestyle!

-Leslie

Hi Jean

what exercises do you think have helped your neck the most?  Are you using creams, too??  What a GREAT compliment that you got!

Jae

Hi Jae

I am not sure which worked the best above others.   I do them all..anywhere I can...anytime...any neck ex I can find or hear about, plus the ones Olympia advised (in Workshop pages now I
think)....yes...I do enzyme peels on neck, use Cetaphyl on neck, use products from Hope Aesthetics on neck, and CP's have greatly helped the 'discoloration' from sun-damage.   I have what appears to be almost like a rope burn on left side of neck, way back....been there for yrs.  Redness and blotchiness on neck and chest in general has faded considerably...but what I am most pleased with is the build front of neck, where I was beginning to develop 'turkey neck'.  I could get a bunch of this between thumb and finger in my pre-flex 'pinch test'....now this area is FIRM and sides of my neck look as if I work out..very firm and strong looking.  I LIKE this more than I can tell you!!  This area was such a maddening problem for me..and gets better monthly.   These ex help the jowls as well!  A big bunch.

Jean

Hi Jean

Your note about the improvements to your neck area was very inspiring.  I am also struggling with this area. (the beginnings of turkey-neck!) I was wondering if you do any weight-bearing exercises.  For example,  the head lift, with a weight held against your forehead?  If so,  do you do these weight-bearing exercises daily--or every other day?  I've been doing head-lift with a weight,  but alternating days because I'm assuming the neck muscles are more like "body" muscles than "facial"
muscles,  and (like body muscles) need rest periods in order to grow.    What's been your experience?

Thanks!
Ann

Hi Ann

Hi. no, I only use wts with the exercise Olympia posted (read post to Ellen).  However, I am a nursing assistant and do a very lot of lifting and 'flexing' on-the-job...(I fondly call this my muscle resistance training.) lol.  Maybe my line of work is an added assist.  lol.

Jean

Hi Jean,

I too, am curious about which exercises you have been doing.  I checked the workshop and saw several listed but wasn't sure which ones Olympia had recommended.  I wonder if you would mind
describing them for us once again.

Thanks.
Ellen

Hi Ellen

I do all of the exercises in the video and book for the neck area..and the one Jason posted some time back where you stand, doing ex similar to chest pull, stick your chin out and do an exaggerated chewing motion.  Also head lift. One I particularly love is place your right hand against the right side of your head, press slightly to offer resistance, then, keeping your eyes looking straight ahead, try to turn your head to the right and look over your right shoulder.  Your hand should prevent you head
from turning.  then, as though you have lost the battle, allow your right hand to push your head to the left as far as you can.  repeat this w/left hand on left side of your head.  do both sides ten x. (From The Take Charge Beauty Book, Aubrey Organics)..also doing head roll.....all the chin and jawline ones assist as well...To firm up chin and neck area...Make an open-mouthed (turned down) grimace, pulling this muscle tightly so that you feel the muscles in the neck also pulling and tightening.  Hold this expression a few seconds, then relax your mouth into a normal position. repeat l0 x.   The one I do Olympia posted:  Stand in a relaxed, erect position, holding dumbbells at your side with a neutral grip.  Your shoulders should be rounded forward but sloping downward at the beginning of the movement.  Raise your shoulders as high as possible, then back as far as possible.  lower the wt and repeat the movement.   this is excellent!  hope is a help.

Jean

Hi all,

after reading Jean's post and her success with her neck area I felt inspired and surfed  the net . Came up with a few sites mostly all the same. Here is one.www.teamresultz.com and go to neck area. Mostly stretching and isometric exercises but its working the neck. Good Luck.

Elaine

Hi Jean

One ex. I like for the neck & jowls is on Facial Magic video I have.  Maybe Deb has it in her book, but I haven't ordered mine yet.  Have you tried this?  Looking straight in front of you tip your head back to make the neck area feel taut (like looking up at the ceiling); turn your head to one side (keeping the neck taut), look over your shoulder and push out your lower jaw. You can really feel the pull in your jaw and neck.  :)

1 month Flexing and reaping rewards   Jun 5, 2001

Just wanted to let everyone know that I had an unexpected compliment and I know its due to the flexing.  A man in the store asked me if I knew how much I looked like Jacquline Bissett in her younger days.  I thanked him and told him no one has said that to me since I was in my 20's!  Made my day. P.S.  I don't think I look like her, but I had her shape at one time  before the sags and now its returning thanks to the program!

Time with FlexEffect May 29, 2001

I have been doing Deb's exercises for a grand total of 9 months (with one month off).

I am just now noticing an overall firmness to my face.  I have been probably one of the most skeptical of all, but now know that there truly is something to this.  It really does work.  I have crepiness right outside the corners of my mouth and even though not gone, it is looking smoother!  I'm finally a believer!  It does take time and diligence but it feels so good that I don't mind!!!!!

Hi Renee

Congratulations!

I'm glad you were able to keep at it. A lot of our skeptics drop out in the first few weeks. I'm really pleased that you gave the exercises a real chance. It only gets better from here on out!!

Does this really work? May 29, 2001

How does this facial exercise work?  Can it reduce wrinkles on the chin?

Cheryl
IP: 205.188.197.156

Hi, Cheryl,

I don't know about reducing wrinkles on the chin, but I know the program works. I've been doing some isometric face exercises (not very diligently) since February, and I began Deb's program very diligently about three weeks ago, and my face is making dramatic changes. I'm 46, and my chin is already more defined than it has ever been -- AND I'm suddenly getting a Kirk-Douglas-style cleft in it, and I don't know where that's coming from. I started by just doing most of the exercises in the Deb's book, and now I'm up to all 40 of them. I usually do most of them the recommended 10 times to a count of six. If you're at all interested in improving or even just maintaining your looks, Deb's exercises are great. As a newbie, I can tell major changes already (my top furrow was horrible, and it's already lessening noticeably; and the high cheekbones I had when I was young are showing up again) but I've read enough on this board to tell that people who have been doing them longer have experienced dramatic changes far beyond what I have. If you try these exercises, I don't think you'll be sorry.

David

Hi Cheryl

Facial exercises can help to reduce lines and wrinkles by increasing the muscle size and filling in the area. It may also help due to the increased circulation. For deep lines and wrinkles you may not be able to do a great deal for them through exercises and may need to look at skin care options in
conjunction with facial exercises. Look at Tori's before and after pictures to get a good idea of what you can do. Her lines have been greatly reduced after one year but they have not been eliminated. Yet still, the difference is phenomenal. You just have to get in there and see what you can do with the exercises. Results will vary person to person largely depending upon consistency and dedication to making it work, just like with any exercise program. Also, the earlier you start, the better. Don't
wait until major sag has set in....makes it that much harder.

Jason

Hi Cheryl

Yes! don't wait until major sag has set in.  I wish I had known about flex effect 10 yrs ago; or better even, 20 yrs ago..but I didn't.   (probably would not have had the staying power then at that time anyway; thinking sag could never happen to me!)  I have had great effects from this program....and I know with the effects I have been able to realize at approaching 59, if I had started earlier, I would not be working so hard at it NOW...point being, if I can realize marked visible effects at my point in
time, imagine what you can accomplish beginning at an early age.  Though very pleased with what I have achieved, I will never know what I may have achieved had I the knowledge of this earlier on.
so go for it!

Still with it May 24, 2001

Hi Deb, I'm the Fireman from NYC. We spoke over the phone about two years ago. Well, I'm still with it. Thanks for this great program. I just wanted to say to anyone that may be getting a little discouraged, to hang in there. If you want to see fast results (more is better). I do a count of 30, 5 X on the areas that I feel need it most. You really work the muscle and see the pump. I also end Deb's workout with this little device called Facial Flex. It's different, in that your mouth is moving, like
weight lifting. Thanks again Deb,

Hey Jim,

If you get the chance, tell us about what you've experienced over the last two years in performing FlexEffect. We would love to hear more about your routine and accomplishments!!

Jason

:Hi Jason,

If this can help someone, I'd be happy to tell my story. Being middle aged and recently divorced I found myself up during the night and a perfect target for all the info commercials. In the dating scene again I let my vanity get the best of me. So there I was buying and trying everything on the market. I started a program simular to Deb's but not as aggressive. At best I was getting a rested look. Now, finding that I got some results I looked further and found Deb's progam. Wow, big difference. With being more aggressive and not worrying about stretching the skin, I saw dramatic results. At the time,(about two years ago)I called Deb with some questions and to my amazement she got back to me. That alone says a lot. I found that "more is better" when it comes to facial exercise. If someone really wants to see dramatic results, they can. You just have to beef up the intencity. I do 26 of Deb's exercises. I hold with resistance for a fast count of 30, and I repeat this 5 times. When I'm finished with each muscle group there is a very noticable build and filling in that area. Where as with just a quick count of 6 or so I wasn't getting it. That's probably good for beginners. When I'm finished with the routine I end with a little device called Facial Flex. That seems to put the finishing
touch on the entire mouth area. Just one more thing. I had to stop Flex Effect for a few months but when I started back I gained what was lost within a week. You can always start right back up again. I hope this was helpful to someone. Hang in there!

Great Results  May 22, 2001

Hi,
Just wanted to say how fabulous the FlexEffect programme is. I've been doing all forty exercises daily now for the past eight weeks and I'm so impressed with the results so far, they really do work! I've had so many comments from people on how well I'm looking that I think I'll be hooked for life!! The best thing is no longer having to worry about ageing, I really do believe that with FlexEffect Deb has found the secret to keeping (and even improving!) your looks. Thanks so much, from one very happy customer.

Rah

Hi Rah,

Congratulations!! I'm only a few weeks in, but looking forward to sharing your enthusiasm. Can you please describe your results in a bit more detail for us? I love to hear about other people's improvements. It keeps me going...
Lynne

Hi Lynne,

The main reason I started the FlexEffect programme was to try and give my face a fuller look. I naturally have a thin face but over the last couple of years it had become more gaunt looking and was frequently getting comments about how tired I was looking. Since starting the exercises my face has definately filled out especially around the cheek area, I now have lovely round 'apple' cheeks when I smile. My eye area has also seen great results, before they were very hollow but after doubling up on the eye exercises from about the third week, the hollows have filled out nicely and my eyes appear larger - much like they were when I was younger. My skin is also looking heathier, probably a combination of the facial massage which I do every other day and also using P and R cream from Skinbiology. I still have a way to go to achieve the results I'm looking for, but I have no doubt that I will achieve them going on the benefits I've already gained. I know some people reading this may think I'm exagerating the differences these exercises have made to me already,  I wouldn't
have believed it myself two months ago!! But I do think that dedication and perseverence are the keys to making these exercises work for you.

Best Wishes, Rah.

Hi Rah,

That sounds great...and I'm using the same products as you are too. (I've already noticed a much nicer skin tone with the CP products.) About the under-eye hollows, which exercises did you
use to get your hollows filled out?? I'm working on that as well. I'd be ecstatic if I could fill mine in...

Lynne

Hi Lynne

For under eye hollows, I've been doing the Lower Lid Lift morning and evening for ten repitions but holding the muscles until they start to ache. I've really had to work hard at this one because initially I found it difficult to locate the muscles as they had very little strength and found I was ending up literally just screwing my face up in an attempt to get the muscles to move!! It does take time to get the hang of this exercise and immediately after exercising I do find the under eye area looks a little more lined but this is only temporary and usually corrects itself after a few minutes.Hope this helps.....Rah.

Hi Rah.

I feel stupid asking this but are under eye hollows very dark circles?  I have circles really bad and I've tried every product out there trying to cover them.  I've been doing lower lid lifts every day for the past few weeks and I know that's not long enough but I was hoping for a little improvement there.  Did you have circles and are they gone now?

Jo Anne

Hi Jo Anne,

I can really sympathise with you where dark circles are concerned, I've always suffered from them even as a child and I do still have them even with exercising although they are much improved now. I would say that eye hollows and dark circles are different problems, although having hollows will certainly make dark circles appear worse. Hollows could be described as sunken areas around the eyes, mine always looked worse when I was tired. The Lower Lid Lift will certainly help this, it definately has worked for me but I do still have to wear concealer under my eyes to cover the dark circles. I've tried lots of different concealers over the years and have found that Dermablend Quick
Fix Concealer to be the best by far, it's the only one that I come back to time after time. Keep up the exercises though because they really are worth it!

All the best....Rah

To Deb a Green apple Thanks!   May 4, 2001

I really want to thank you, Deb for well over a year of your patience, effort and encouragement.  I didn't know or really believe when I started that skin could actually look BETTER as time went on!  But you stood by your theory and allowed me to ask you many, many questions.  You encouraged me to continue when I got worried and you shared your beauty secrets including ideas about
Retin A's and Renova.  You give us a board to share our progress.  (even when our name appears toooo much!)

You emailed me, you called me and you walked me through it all.   You are a continual inspiration on how to actually help yourself. You showed me how to feel positive about skincare.

You know, you are quite remarkable so hey, thank you any great feedback I get.  For the ability to look ahead at aging and not running screaming to the nearest martini!   (doesn't mean I still don't run to a good martini -especially Green Apple, but now I can toast you with it instead)

Thanks, Girlfriend!!

Hi.  I realize flexing is about lift and not about wrinkles exactly....but since build and lift do tend to smooth out some and put some into oblivion someplace, what are the chances of smoothing out a whole bunch?  I am so encouraged by 'loosing' just two that now I am really gung ho, and I was fairly gung ho before.  Explain to us technically why some lines and wrinkles seem to disappear with flexing.  Is it building muscle alone, or the benefits to the skin itself? or a combo? or location? or
extent of damage in a particular area?  I am just curious because it seems so amazing how this could be physically possible....yet is before my very eyes.  I have an instinct that massaging has great deal to do with this in some way or other.   whatever, I am happy....just very curious for a clinical
explanation.  Did you experience this too?

Jean

Hi Jean

The wrinkles disappearing is due to a combination of exercising, which increases the mass of the muscle which pushes out the skin. Also the increase blood flow assists with repair of damaged tissue. Additionally, since your skin care regimen sounds to be advanced, I'm sure the combination of good skin care and exercising have been responsible for the disappearance of lines. Remember, lines are an indication of skin damage. Exercising, in addition to advanced skin care, helps us to repair the damage that years of neglect or abuse have caused.

Congratulations on your achievement. Your testimony is an encouragement to us all.

To Jean. Bribery works !!!   May 4, 2001

Ha!! You are too funny!!  OK for me it might be the 100 bills that I leave hanging out of my pockets - well, whatever works!!

My joke with all of my friends used to be - for years - that it really made me mad when someone asked me age because when I told them they would just nod their heads and go "OH".  What.. where was the - "You COULDN'T be??"

And now they are.  I sometimes have other women who I know are about the same age say to me "You wouldn't know about this, you're too young."  Since it all started to change within the year, I know it has to do with Deb's program and the changes I've made in skin care. I exercise my face and my skincare got gentler, more natural and less irritating.

I actually have a problem because I know that I don't try enough to dress up.  Most of the time I am in my garden with 4 dogs.  So for me, it makes me feel good because I know that I am taking care of myself.  It is not plastic surgery, which my friends are doing.  Or expensive clothes and jewelry or facials and hai cuts that cost $$$$.   It is simply wanting to be my best.  NOT younger.I don't ever want to go back even 1 year.  I would like to feel that I look healthy for my age.  I think it is healthy for woman to care about themselves but not enough to let age panic us.   Use age to get better.  Mentally, spiritually and physically.  I have started working out, too.  I want a healthy heart, a healthy body.  A balanced life all the way around.

I think that when we are excited about life we look forward with joy and hope.  I love the quote "Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be".  Robert Browning.

Life makes us better, doesn't it?!

Hi Jae,

Congratulations on your great results.  I have been flexing on and off for about a year but feel that I need to step it up to get more results.  How many times a week do you do the exercises and do you do them all?  Do you mind sharing your morning and evening routines and which products you use?  I've read some of your previous post re: cp's and Hope Aesthetics.  There are soooo many choices out there, I feel like I'm going to go broke trying everything.   Thanks for any tips you can give.

2 less wrinkles!   May 3, 2001

O.K.  I've got one for you.  Nasal labial folds.  yes, I counted my wrinkles there last summer when I began flexing....o.k....I have 2, count them T W O    TWO TWO TWO TWO  LESS WRINKLES..tis true.  On either side!   And a little fine line that was beneath these 'craters' has all but evaporated...or gone where diminished lines go?  (Probably crop up in my forehead!)....but
for the moment are OVER...DONE WITH....GONE!!!! Now, Jason, explain that! (smile).   FLEXING DOES ASSIST WITH WRINKLES!  I DON'T KNOW ABOUT TOTALLY OBLITERATING THEM, BUT  THEY HAVE GONE
SOMEWHERE off in the ozone....not on my face!!!!! They are simply not there...and to me, that seems totally obliterated.  It cannot be ALL the results of products I am using...as I have used trillions of those with great huge effects to the skin
itself...some effect on wrinkles, but not monumental. What other ones I have are 'softened'..but these aforementioned 2 are gone!My face is 'fuller' in this area..so perhaps they haven't "gone" anywhere, but they DON'T SHOW!!!  That is good enough for me!

Jean

Hi Jean!!

Congrats!!  This is very good news for all of us flexers!!  I am rejoicing with you!!

Way to go, Jean!!!

My turn soon, I hope!!

A few ideas? May 2, 2001

Hi there, my friend has the flexeffect book which I came across when visiting her on holiday to Florida (I live in London), and she had nothing but good things to say about it.  After 5 years
of not seeing her she looks better than ever. Obviously I took great interest in flexeffect so she also mentioned you had a very helpful website and I was wondering if I could have a few hints to start me off before I purchase any items.I have a very small petite face with angular features.  What I would like to achieve through facial exercises is to round off these features esp areas like the mouth as I have a pointy chin with jowls at the side of the lips.  Also to plump up the under eyes and cheekbones.   I know that is alot to ask,so I am mainly concerned about the mouth area.Thank you very much for your time

Thank you Deb Apr 17, 2001

I can't thank you enough for your program.  I ordered the tape about a year ago.   I did it a few times and like so many other "fitness" tapes, they ended up in the cabinet. I just couldn't find the time to do it consistently.  I got it out last week and really started the program with gusto and in only five days my face is getting so firm and I already see some lift.  I am so happy I got the tape out again.   I am making the time now.  It is so worth it.  I have a 25th class reunion in July and I know the jowls will be gone by then and there will be even more lift. Again, thank you so much....I'm looking younger already!

under eye area  Apr 7, 2001

Hiya! Um,okay-I'm in my early thirties & I've had Deb's flexeffect video for aprox. a year- I did the program for about a week & a half. I noticed that I had less puffiness under my eyes & the dark circles under my eyes definitely improved in that short time. But then I got scared & insecure because of some article I read that was in opposition to facial exercises. I don't know if it was just the natural aging process or the short time I did the exercises, butafter that,it seemed that I had aquired a couple of tiny fold lines immeadiatly under my eyes that I'd never noticed before. So I think all I really need now is some encouragement, someone to tell me that it isn't going to make my eyes worse
Mae
IP: 208.177.130.218

Hi Mae

When done properly, the exercises will not cause any lines or wrinkles to form. I've done them religiously for over two years without causing a single line. While I am a certified FlexEffect
instructor, I have no vested interest in FlexEffect. I donate my time and opinions to the board free of charge. No kickbacks (darn it! LOL) no salary .....nada. So I have nothing to gain or lose by telling you this. Go for it. You'll be happy you did!

Ok, Thanks for the reply, I'll try again.

Results  Mar 29, 2001

I just wanted to write and say that I have now been doing FlexEffect for almost one year.   It is really working because I can see an obvious improvement in the firmness of my face! It no longer has that drab almost sagging look and my upper lip appears lifted and fuller. On top of that, I am suddenly hearing "oh, I thought you were like 27 or 28"...fyi, I am almost 37.  I also have been carded twice, Wow! I'm gonna keep doing this forever and avoid plastic surgery in my future.  Thanks Deb!

Vertical lines gone   Mar 21, 2001

Hello everyone,

I thought that when I got my first positive flexing result, I would share it with you. The major change I see is with my lip area. I understand that this is the easiest muscle to correct. I had fairly deep vertical lines on both my upper and lower lips. I do not smoke and have been flexing (not all 40 exercises, of course) for 6 months. I am 48 yrs. old.   I am constantly doing the 'bite the upper and lower lips' exercise. What ever it is called.  It works. What I have seen first is a larger lip, which

is in Vogue, you know, and then today, I noticed that the lines are GONE.  Vanished.  I will look tomorrow for them, but I don't think they are coming back. By the way, this is an easy exercise
to do. I do it in the car and at work (in my office when no one is around).  Just thought some of you might be interested in correcting this area as well.

Karen
IP: 216.112.40.166

Hi. Karen....

me too.  this was an area that really pleased me to pieces.  I, too have deep verticle lines.  I still have some of them but they are so much better than prior to flexing...it is really an encouragement to see these kind of results. I have been flexing since last summer..about 9 mos.  I do same ex you do for
this area and they are so very effective I do some of them several times a day also and yes, they are so easy!!!

Jean.

Karen:

Congratulations on your success.   May I ask if you do any of the other lip/mouth exercises?   I've been flexing for six weeks and haven't seen any results.   I don't really expect to yet but  was just wondering.    Congragulations again.

Rita

Dear Rita:

I am not very good at doing all of the 40 exercises. I do only some of them. A couple for eyes, a couple for cheeks / jowls (that are nearly impossible to correct) a quick neck exercise, couple for the forehead, and the lips.   I ONLY do 'bite the lips' (don't know the name)for my lip exercise. I don't think it is in my set of flashcards.  This is such an easy exercise that I do it several times a day. You see, it doesn't take any hands, so I don't worry about contaminating my eyes or mouth or messing up what little makeup I wear.  You will first notice that the size of your upper lip will increase (a little).  It won't puff out like some of the lip stick models, so don't worry.  After a while, the lines disappear.  They are still gone. I checked today.  I still have one on my lower lip, so I will press on that section more. It appears to be deeper than the other lines.

Bye.
Karen
P.S. Rita, I re-read your message and see that you said you were exercising for 6 WEEKS! Let me know in 3 MONTHS. It takes time. At least for me it does
.

Muscle tone and wrinkles Mar 13, 2001

Hello again,

I have been facial exercising now for about 6 months. I have a horrible time sticking to any consistent schedule, but I am managing to do the major groups of face muscles every day
(almost).  My question is about the wrinkles under my eyes. I have 4 fairly deep lines under each eye that have developed during the past year. I am 48 years old. When I do the 'cheek raiser' exercise, they disappear entirely. The problem is - they come back. How do I get them to stay away permanently? What do you think?

Karen
IP: 216.112.40.166

Hi!

If my experience is any normal indication, I think the area will build up in time.  Doing lower lid lift helps a lot...but it does take time. some of us have more fluid buildup in this area than others, and different at diff times of day...i.e. a.m's upon awakening, etc.  Jason can give real input on this re fluid, etc. some things won't be helped by flexing.  building the muscle will be; however.  I had bad lines there...now the area is quite smooth considering all my other undesirable factors!  lol.  I was
really amazed how this area built...but it took time.  I have been flexing since last summer. go to Workshop..there's a lot of valuable info on this particular problem area there. often topical treatments on this area assist as well.

Jean

Flexing will help to fill out wrinkles but, especially if they're deep, won't irradicate them. Wrinkles are a sign of skin damage, thus the issue is less one of sag than skin integrity. There are a wide array of cosmeceuticals out there purporting to eliminate or reverse wrinkles. None of them that I am familiar with will eliminate deep wrinkles. For deep wrinkle elmination you will have to explore options such as chemical, laser, or series of dermabrasion peels. A dermatologist would be able to advise you on what would be appropriate for you.

Variations of Deb's ex's and up-date  Mar 9, 2001

Hey Jason,

As always, your posts are great!  I've been looking through the board for the variations of Deb's
exercises, (that you discovered) and can't find them all.  If you could find a special place to put them up, I am sure everyone would love to try them!  It will inspire us to follow Deb's advice to "be creative"! How about listing them by your e mail address? Just to have them together in some place where we can all find them easily,  would be wonderful!!!   Please. 0:-)  Ok...now for an update:
It has been one year and a half, and I am still seeing results!!!  Things just keep improving slowly but surely.  My niece who is 21 (with beautiful flawless skin) asked me to show her the exercises. She said it is "so awesome" to see something that works so well, that she wants to start early.  She likes
exercising, and said, "why not just include the face", since it is part of the body!   Wish I had been so wise when I was her age!  But thank God it is never too late!

Anyway, for us vets, the trick seems to be creativity!  Now that we KNOW it works, it is just a matter of knowing one's face, and getting to know the muscles better.  As always Deb, I can't thank you enough for all the help and support you give to us. EVERY piece of advice you have given me has worked, just as you say it will.  So, once again I am thanking you for so generously sharing your expertise.

Ok Jason........can't wait to try all your, variations on Deb's exercises. Your information is always an incredible help! No pressure though!  LOL

Exercise Question   Feb 21, 2001

Hi everyone

I have been doing the exercises from the video for about 10-11 months and I see a big improvement, especially in certain areas. I am still having problems with one exercise that I just can't
seem to master. It is the one where you place your thumbs under your chin and then press down while keeping you mouth slightly open. You are suppose to feel this in your temples but I have yet to get the proper placement of my thumbs to feel it there. Any suggestions or other exercises that I could do to replace this one. I need to tighten up the area around my temples..which seems to pull up on the lower face and help with smile lines around the eyes.

Thanks for your help.
Rhonda
IP: 209.255.228.42

Hi!
Try doing this one with your lips closed and teeth apart.  It took me FOREVER to be able to 'feel this in my temples'. see if this will work a little better for you.
Jean

Rhonda,

You must open your mouth very wide. I place my thumbs just under the tip of my chin.

Hope that helps!

One year up-date!   Feb 20, 2001

Thought I would give an update.  This month marks one year of flexing.   Since last February I’ve seen wonderful changes all around.   All areas of my face have built nicely and I could almost say that the time has come after using Retin-A for nearly 11 years that I could actually put it up if I really wanted to, but since it helps my break-outs, I won’t be able to totally stop using it, but use it less and use it in areas that need a little help.  There are areas that need improvement like top furrow (for which I’ve incorporated my own exercise by putting right thumb under left top furrow, placing left index finger and middle finger over top left furrow, (feel thumb through furrow), lock on, then pull down toward mouth and try to smile. Do other side).  Doing this exercise in conjunction with Deb’s other top furrow exercise has helped this area.

The neck area has built up nicely on both sides but the sag right up under the neck is not totally gone.  In my case, I notice that diet plays a major role.  If I cut out fats, the sag is almost gone.  I should mention too that this is genetic. Flexing has helped this area but I see it’s going to take longer
than a year to really reach that goal.

My jawline looks more defined than I've seen it in years.

I'm pleased to mention that my lips look better than what they did when I was in my 20's.   I never knew they could be built to the size they are.  I don't mean they're drastically larger but just enough to say that I don't remember them looking as good as they do now.

I found that using vinyl gloves right after I wash and dry my  face has really helped me get a good grip on the exercises because my hands don't slip like they did when I wasn't using them.  I mentioned this before in an early post, but I thought I would mention it again.

Now I'm looking forward to year two in flexing when I’ll be a year older and looking even better than what I look this year.  BTW, I'm 46.

Hi Becky

Happy Birthday! LOL. Sounds like you very much are on track. I remember the vinyl glove tip. I use them now, too. Great suggestion!

Jason

Jason

Where do you buy vinyl gloves?
Connie
IP: 63.67.120.226

Hi Connie

I buy mine at Wal-Mart, a 100 to a box. I can't remember the price right off, but they're pretty cheap. They come in different sizes, too.

Jason

Hi:

I bought mine from the grocery store (Food Lion).  They are put out by Ansell called Viny-Touch.  There are 50 disposable gloves to a box and cost under $4.  I would also check with the drug store if you don't have a Food Lion in your area.  Jason may have some  ideas.

Re: corner mouth pull   Feb 14, 2001

Lisa and Renee,

In my case, the skin has tightened up. I can't pinch any appreciable amount of skin anywhere on my face - it's very firm. I'm 43 and have been flexing for over a year.

Sadie
IP: 205.129.112.52

Sadie,

Did you notice a loosening in the first few months then it tightened up?  I'm 45 and prior to beginning this, my skin wasn't near as loose! Lisa, thanks for your input also!
Renee

Hi.!

I have those little 'pockets' around mouth.   There are a lot less "pockety" since flexing...this will take some major work for me...being 58...major sun damage over the yrs...and sag in this area (lower half of face).  In the beginning BF (before flexing)  I did Deb's recommendation of 'measuring' your skin slack etc.  I have a noticeable improvement here.  also have pics...and I can tell when applying makeup. (been flexing 10 mos)....I cannot praise facial massaging enough...this is really a definite enhancer to all else.  all works together...takes time.  In my case, perhaps I will need some more aggressive assistance..i.e. chin implants or whatever?  However; giving it an entire year to see how far I CAN go with it.  The bottem line, though I may not be where I would wish to be in this particular area of my face...I also realize I may NEVER be where I would wish to be with this particular area of my face....but the improvement is evident!  so I'll go with that...don't give
up...if I did not have the loss of elasticity I do have, I imagine this area would have responded totally as well as other areas of my face.  so you hang in there and see just what all you can achieve!

Lines / Folds Feb 1, 2001

I have been using your exercises for about 2months now and am noticing an improvement in my forehead.  The lines are definitely diminishing.  So thanks for that. :-))

My problem is that I have lines and the start of a fold running from the centre of the side of my nose down to about 1cm from the corner of my mouth.  What exercises should I do more of to target them.  I notice my dad has the same lines, so they seem to be hereditary, does that matter?

Can you help me please!

IP: 172.134.234.237.

Hi Phil

Do you have the book, the video or both? Top Furrow ADV is a very good exercise for the naso-labial folds. I also like Mouth Flex Adv. Not only does it build the lips but it will also help reduce the fold as well. The naso-labial fold is the most stubborn. So don't get discouraged if you don't see the kind of results you want right away. It actually took me about nine months or more
before I began to have results.

Progress Report  Jan 20, 2001

Hi Jason and Deb,

I posted a month or so ago about a deep vertical fissure in my forehead (right above the nose) that seemed to look worse, more prominent, although shorter and flatter. I was very surprised and encouraged by Deb's analysis that it will look worse as the deepest level of the crease is exposed as the more superficial levels flatten out. So I'm holding that as my principle over the next year or so
whenever I look at the damn thing.

The latest report is that I do notice the top end of this approx. 3/4" line is flattening even more. The line etched in the skin is becoming exposed especially at the top, and throughout its length. This was something I used to have to pull the bulgy skin on either side to see. I have a kind of zigzag or
lightning bolt line there and its much more evident than before. However, it's still quite deep and 50% of the time when I see my face in a mirror, especially in fluorescent light, I think it hasn't improved that much.  If I can beat this sucker down, that will be a real feather in your cap for the programme
because this furrow is a real [expletive deleted]. BTW, I'm doing Jason's exercises and I think
this is the magic bullet for me. Since I started pulling the brows upward and then doing frowner, and also doing interrupted crunches (i.e. half-contraction to mid-point and hold a sec, then on to the full
contraction, then half-way back out, and to full release) I'm starting to see a significant difference.
Thanks to both of you.

[Okay, 5 minutes in the penalty box for oversharing about my facial terrain in public.]

Progress Report        Jan 17, 2001

Hi Deb,

Well, I'm into my 26th day of facial building and I can't believe it, this stuff really works. I lost 30 pounds since August and it really showed in my face. I'm 47 years old and was skeptical. I had a very loose double chin, and loose jowls. My neck has begun to firm up tremendously, and the jowls are getting so much tighter. I was skeptical at first, but now you have a believer out of me. It's going to be interesting to see and feel where I'll be in another 25 days. Thanks Deb, and keep up the great work your doing.

Rick

Rick

OK, I gotta know -- exactly WHICH exercises did you do that tightened your jowls? And in only 26 days!  Cough up your secret, dude!  I'm seeing results too, but those jowls just keep hangin'
around!  Is it different for men than for women?  What gives here?

Progress Report   Jan 13, 2001

Hi Everyone,

I have been flexing for 8 1/2 months now.  Have seen some wonderful changes!!   What has really impressed me is that my FOUR chins that I started with (due to atrophy...I am thin) have diminished to one and a half.  I have always had a double chin which I can live with but not FOUR!!! My cheeks are noticeably fuller and higher. I was beginning to get jowls and have noticed my jawline is firming up. The folds from nose to mouth are much better. Seems to have shortened with the lift in cheeks. I had some crepiness on the tops of my cheeks that seems to be smoothing out!! I don't remember my face ever feeling so firm! I still have areas that need work...brow and undereye area.   I have noticed though the deflated bags under my eyes (don't know how else to describe this) seem to have shortened. Hope this makes sense.Hope this means progress there. My son gave me a compliment today! He told me I look so much better now than before I began this program! And its AFTER Christmas!! LOL

Anyway hope this encourages those just starting out. I also want to mention that when I first started the exercises I kind of looked worse than before I started. However I kept going because of all the encouragement I got out of reading the discussion board. It passed and when I could really feel the
muscles I was working things really started to progress. I'll be doing these exercises for the rest of my life!!

Bonnie
IP: 64.20.82.206

Hi Bonnie!

I, too, am into 8 l/2 mos.  Isn't it great?!  YES, I know EXACTLY what you mean by "deflated bags" under the eyes..I had written a post recently expressing how much this has improved for me.  I will be doing this for life too...I notice the build up in cheeks..I was so amazed by this in the beginning, as it was fastest to respond for me....now it is even better!  I can't get over the benefit to your skin!  I know Deb said this would be the case, but I wasn't expecting the results to the skin, itself, that I have realized by flexing and massaging. Seems one thing benefits another and that thing benefits yet another thing and so on ..Did it take you awhile to get all of the exercises down
correctly?  I feel initially, I was blindly 'aiming' at the designated spot...now I actually KNOW where the designated spot/s are!..as can feel it...and see it.  I bit my thumb many times doing wide laugh, and raked my chin on chin press w/thumbnail...actually 'brush burned' the skin doing top furrow. now all is much easier and I have not wounded myself in months! lol.   loved your post!

Jean

Hi Jean,

Yes I most definitely had my awkward moments in the beginning!! I used to do the exercises in front of a mirror as I felt so uncoordinated and awkward! Now it's like brushing my teeth!! Just do them first thing in the morning while watching TV. I also gouged myself doing tongue press!!! LOL  Glad those awkward moments are over with. Has all been worth it and paid off. Guess we're both addicted!!

Success at last!  Jan 7, 2001

Hello Everyone,

I am thrilled to report that after three months of flexing, seven days a week, I am seeing some lovely results. I was beginning to wonder if would ever happen...Most visible is the lift in my upper cheek area, and I have to say that much to my surprise the nose lift routine is giving me great contours. I think the challenge of this program is learning how to get the correct resistance, which IMHO takes patience and trial by error. I have found that with many of routines I get greater resistance and results when I anchor my elbows on something, like when I am at work I use my desk, when I 'm home watching TV I lean over and use my legs. Hope this is making sense. I also have to tell you that my husband has not been very supportive of my facial contortions and I was feeling very funny
about doing them in front of him, we actually have fought over this. One heated discussion was the result of my flexing during TV time after dinner and he blew up at me saying that he hasn't seen me all day and why do I have to do these ridiculous exercises. I assure you now he is singing a different tune. So I would like to say thanks to those who have encouraged me and to encourage others who are frustrated. Hang in there!!! This is the only way to combat gravity. A special thanks to Deb,

Pam

Gayle's (e-mailed) progress report.   Sent Nov. 21, 2000

Hi Deb!

Your new online pictures look beautiful. Thanks for sharing them with us. Also, I like the changes you've made regarding the discussion board. Thank you!! :))

You asked how training is going... welllllll .. <Grin> .... I know that I'm early into it, I've been flexing since October 16th. As I've shared with you before, I'm over a year into my weightloss track and the changes have been staggering.  With 90-some lbs off and about 25 to go, I've encountered challenges that I didn't expect. Losing over 100 lbs when you're in your 40s is BEGGING for trouble. <chuckles> I wasn't gonna take pictures because I thought that people wouldn't really be able to discern between the positive changes of FlexEffect and the constant changes of still actively losing weight. Now I've rethought that decision. Perhaps there are others out there like me... yanno, works in progress? Most of the people seem to have already lost the weight and are now trying to deal with the effects. My situation is that every day (whether I use FlexEffect or not), my face and body are changing. I can literally look at my face in the morning and know whether I've lost more weight or not. I'm rarely wrong. As I Flex each day, I'm dealing with a changing face. I honestly can't wait til I hit goal so that I can have a more stable situation to work with. My sons have seen me at this weight but they were too small to remember it. I see them every month or so and I watch them study me, trying to get used to their ever-evolving mother. I feel more scrutinized than most people and for good reason. I certainly don't blame friends and family for looking more closely. "Where is Gayle.. and what have you done with her?" ... LOL

I have to tell you that I'm so thankful for FlexEffect. I started out with the tape, working my way through it once a day for the first 3 weeks. About 2 weeks into it, I began to incorporate the massage. Weeks 4 and 5, the weightloss was showing so drastically in my face that I decided to do the tape twice a day and the massage once a day. Now I'm into week 6 and back to the tape and massage daily. Personally, I don't feel I can afford to miss a day right now. Once the weightloss process is over, I still want to keep that pace for my first year of flexing.

For years I'd dreamed of losing weight and yet as I lost more and more of it, I was so frightened by what I was seeing happen to my body (face included). I know this may sound vain, but I would sometimes look in the mirror and feel like I should stop losing... give up the goal.. just stay at that present weight. I reasoned with myself that 50 lbs off.. 60... 70... any of it.. all of it would help improve my health. I would then snap out of   it and give myself a lecture about how this is about HEALTH and that I  needed to keep my priorities straight. If I didn't like the way I looked, then I could search for possible help. Loose skin and stretch marks were a  lot less of a problem than heart disease and cancer. I had done the facial toning exercises almost the whole year as I lost weight. Even so, I looked into the mirror and sometimes teared up. I didn't recognize me anymore. I didn't look healthy even tho I knew I was.

While I have some draping (which causes more smile lines at the moment), the definition occurring from Flexing is undeniable. Cheeks are slowly filling out... no more creases between the eyebrows... double chin is well on its way to a single chin... tho there's still loose skin, the neck is definitely
toning and firming... there's a definite jawline again... forehead is significantly less wrinkled.. eyes have widened.. upper lid droop is improving... and I LIKE my lips! <grin> I will stick with FlexEffect. I am in it for the long term. It is an incredible concept that truly works. I'm not a person who needs quick fixes. I believe that slow and steady wins the race. Diets don't work. There is no 'miracle pill'. Even plastic surgery doesn't last all that long. But exercise... ah, now THERE'S a tool I can work with. <smiles> I plan to have pictures taken approx. every 3 months, starting this weekend. You are always welcome to them as I progress. I  understand that people are timid to put their pictures online but I know the encouragement it has given me to see your pictures and Tori's. I won't be offended if you choose not to use them... just happy to help any way I can.

This novel is almost complete... just have a few questions for ya. hehe Could you please explain the vitamin c/selenium mixture to me? Are you using powder or liquid? What is the C/selenium ratio? Where do you buy yours from? Also, regarding Retin A, have you had any problems with it? Do you have to have a prescription to buy it? If not, where do you buy it? and.. hmm.. did i leave anything out? <thinks.. taps her chin> oh yeah... Why is the sky blue? .. LOL

Thanks for being so supportive, Deb. We must all seem a bit paranoid as we first start out, needing so much reassurance. Handling skin is not something we are familiar with. That reassurance is like gold. You're there for me.... and if I can be there for you in any way... please.. call on me.

Happy Thanksgiving from one who has MUCH to be thankful for!! Your friend,

Gayle

I e-mailed back and asked if I might post her results... Deb

Gayles response   Dec 29, 2000

Hi Deb,

Post away.. I LOVE FlexEffect and I'm happy to share. I might add that I recently attended the annual Christmas Party of the company my husband works for. As I expected, many people stared at me.. taking in the changes of weightloss and flexing. One woman told my husband she thought I'd had a face lift. She was amazed to learn about FlexEffect. Her mother has muscular dystrophy and the muscles in her face are starting to sag. She loves to sing and is beginning to lose the ability to support. Her doctor encouraged her to find a vocal coach who might be able to help her strengthen her diaphragm and abdominal muscles. He also suggested that another possibility might be to work with a speech therapist.

My husband suggested that her mother would really benefit from FlexEffect as the exercises would not only strengthen, but even build muscle. I was wondering if you have ever worked with someone with muscular dystrophy. I plan to talk to her daughter about it and offer to be a partner. How
wonderful to know of something that can bless her life!

I will keep you posted. I hope that you're having a wonderful holiday, Deb. We miss ya when you're away!!!!

Holiday hugs,
Gayle

Where is everyone? Dec 24, 2000

Hi, Everyone--

I've been flexing for 1 year now with great results.

I never want to take the time to list everything, but my right eye was much droopier than my left eye.  Much!  It was half closed when I would look in the mirror with my eye lid folded over.  No more!  Both eyes are much more open, they practically match again.

I still want more results between nose and mouth.  The saggy muscle or whatever it is above the creases from nose to mouth are stubborn for me.   Also, the upper lip seems difficult to build.  Talk to me again, please.

I check into the discussion board every few days for tips and moral support.

Where is everybody?

Pat

IP: 24.12.128.61

Hi Pat:

We are all here!  It is Christmas! -everyone's at Walmart or some place-everyone bogged under with the seasonal nervous breakdowns and such.  How often do you do the lip exercises? and do you do all of them?  I have had real good luck with this area...at times seems to be at a 'standstill', then   begins building again.  I am going into 8 mos.  The muscle above nose to mouth line, furrow...IS hard to get it to go where you would have it to go; however, just takes time...maybe even beyond a year; I
don't know.  But whatever you are doing, benefits are being reaped!  I have doubled up on some in the problem areas I have.  This seems to help..and Olympia and Jason have several variations of different exercises they are always glad to share with everyone.  Olympia always says "get inventive"...and she is right, as this seems to give the extra oomph needed!  Merry Christmas!  Stay at it.

Love it!  Dec 21, 2000

I just received my flexing program, but actually began sooner just by reading the posts on the message board.  I have just turned 30 and noticed that I didn't have as much elasticity as it used to have and that my eyes weren't as bright as they used to be.   I have been doing the exercises and I get the biggest kick out of looking at myself in the mirror.  You know those indention's just below the cheeks that all models seem to have.  I am beginning to develop those!  What a gas!  Anyhow, I have taken before pictures and will send those and some after pictures soon, say in about six months time.  I just have so much fun working on areas that aren't necessarily troublesome, but just for the sake of seeing what effect it will have on my face.  So far I am on my way to becoming a GQ cover model   Thanks Deb!  I'm having a great time.

Sincerely,
Robert Johnson

Need encouragement
Dec 11, 2000

Hi all,

I am frustrated and need some encouragement. I started this program a while ago but was not dedicated until this Fall. I have been flexing six days a week but am seeing little difference. I think I am seeing more build in my cheek area but then I don't see the lift to diminish lines. Could you please
give me some words of encouragement as I know many of you are achieving dramatic results. Is it possible to see build yet still have lines as the skin ha not built up elasticity?

Thanks,
Pam

IP: 216.177.28.42

Hi Pam:

Please don't allow yourself to get discouraged...we all of us go thru this in some degree or the other.  Some of us have had dramatic results, but some of us (most of us I will bet)..it takes longer.  Often changes ARE DEFINITELY going on....just not immediately visible to you.  Is real good idea to take
pictures...and do the test in Deb's book..assessing the slack in skin NOW in various areas...then do it again in 3 mos or so. I have been flexing going into7 mos. I see so many changes and improvements,  but some are a lot slower in coming than others..usually the ones I want the most!)  My skin is really beginning to show the benefits now as well!  Just keep plugging away..that does not sound very positive, but it definitely is the only route to go!  You truly will be happy and pleased that you did.  A lot depends on age, skin condition, etc as well...amount of atrophy already there...not to say this can't be improved upon, because it can and it will!!!   Can't wait to hear from you several more months down the road!......onward!!!!

Jean

Hi Pam,

I started flexing almost exactly a year ago, and I am SO GLAD I DID! No, I didn't take any photos, I'm the ultimate procrastinator. I know I could see the changes more dramatically if I had, but still it's impossible NOT to see the changes after a year, even looking at myself every day. My face had a "sliding down" look to it but not anymore. Flexing has helped dramatically with both sag and lines. I'm especially happy with my undereye area and the lines from my nose to mouth corners. They are fainter and "higher", as Deb wrote in a recent post (I don't have the faint second lines that she mentioned.)My face is also fuller and that makes a big difference, too!

I'm 43 but I can easily pass for 33. My daughter is 24 and people think that we are sisters. So definitely--keep it up and you will reap the rewards! I will keep flexing forever!

Results for men?  Dec 7, 2000

I like the FlexEffect theory from what I read on the website, but most of the testimonials are from women.  Any men out there who have had experience using FlexEffect on conditions such as
facial lines in the cheeks, jowls, sagging neck skin, etc.?

Jeff

IP: 208.25....

Hi Jeff,

There are a few postings on the board from men concerning FlexEffect. Unfortunately, men are less vocal and probably less likely to do FlexEffect or any thing cosmetic to their faces than women. It's not macho in our culture for men to be concerned with their faces and skin. So it's a "quiet" thing, even though men are just as concerned about the effects of aging as women are.

But whether the testimonials are from women or men makes little difference. Muscle is muscle and can be built in either sex regardless, so the result will be the same. Since I started FlexEffect in my mid 30s, I have avoided a lot of the sag problems associated with lax facial muscles. Still, I know what the exercises have done for me and am hooked for life.  Good luck on your quest.

e-mail post: Training Effects      Dec 3, 2000

Deborah,

Since I spoke with you when I ordered my FlexEffect material, I want to e-mail you directly and let you know how positive the results are.

On September 22, 2000 I was visiting with my GP who is also a Sports Medicine Doctor. At that time I was learning that I would probably have to give up running. I complained bitterly for two reasons. I love to run and running was giving me great facial tone. My doctor's son, Dan, who is a physical trainer said simply "start a facial toning program." That day, I resolved to do more research which is how I found your program.

I had been using Carol Maggio's exercises. I was hoping I could get better results with a more intense training program. After two months, using your exercises, there is a huge difference. I have to thank Carol Maggio for the introduction to facial toning. Her book absolutely curtailed further damage. Your exercises actually begin a restoration process.

Today, on my return visit, I took your book. While Dan was looking at the exercises and the cover he said "Is this your book? The picture is a good likeness." I can't tell you how complimented I was. I said "No, but THANK YOU!" Dan said "No, really, this looks just like you!" Again I thanked him and promised myself to work even harder. Thank you, Deborah. I can still see some tiny facial lines. But the improvement is phenomenal!

Sincerely,
Gail Besch

Re: To Deb, Why Dec 1, 2000

Hi, Jason.

Thanks for the response. I did it every day for 3 months and saw no change. I stopped for one month, and noticed that I looked drawn. The point being, I think Flexing did help my face in subtle
ways that I only realized when I stopped. Also, I know I should have more time for myself, but, when you work in TV and film, you have no control over the schedule. Anyway, it's good to know that you can do it every other day and see results.  Thanks again. 8^)

Over 45 Flexer    Oct 13, 2000

I've been doing flexeffect for 1 month.

I can tell a nice change in my face--my chin is more defined; lines from the nose to mouth are
improved; lines on forehead aren't as noticeable.

When I started this back in July and had to quit, I noticed that I wasn't doing all the exercises correctly.  Since I have corrected my form on some exercises, my results have improved.

I like the new me--can't wait to see me after six months.

Candy

Hi Candy

Sounds like you're good- to- go!  Keep training tough and let us know how it's going in another month.

Deb;0)

Hi Candy.

I am an over 55 flexor!  Please keep at it....you WILL experience marked results.  I think we 'older' flexors have a little "edge" sort of...our muscles are so atrophied, they would probably respond to a fan running on high speed!  Some areas I had immediate results.  Surprised the life out of me!   Other areas do take longer..not just for us...but the younger flexors also.  I think I was born with nasal lab. folds!  been there since I was 12 (seems like it anyway)...like Jason, they are becoming fainter.  I am into 5 mos and the changes are really beginning to show up more and more.  I just realize it will take time and 'staying power'....I am far from where I am going...but the 'road signs' are truly encouraging!!!  I am beyond delighted with Deb's program.

Jean

Hi Jean

I am not about to drop this program.  I've been looking for this for years.  Without the internet, I probably wouldn't have found it.  I tried another program last year--nothing changed.  I was kinda skeptical because no flexing was involved with these isometric exercises.

I'm definitely going to stay with FlexEffect.  We have to wear and how our faces all the time.  I was very unhappy with the way my face was starting to age.  Now I have something to work towards.   It's worth it!

I'll keep flexing and you, too.

Progress Up-date e-mail  Oct 12, 2000

Lynne was correct when she discussed commitment to facial exercise [flexeffect]. Having purchased the whole kit I started the program with gusto. I am delighted to say that I definitely noticed a change. I actually enjoy my reflection in the mirror, for the first-in a long while.Unfortunately, I started working on my son's room [painting, curtains, etc.] and stopped flexing for several weeks. The mirrors are now covered and after this note I am going to FLEX.

DEB, JASON, and OLYMPIA it works, just like you said it would. Love you all for being here for us believers, its your website that keeps me going [ACTUALLY IT'S THE RESULTS. LOL]

Contribution time:

I have always had a small bulbous nose. Had I had the money and guts I would have had it altered. This exercise has really improved it, to where I really like my nose!  Take the tip of your nose and push it up towards your forehead and hold it there the entire time, while you try to pull your top lip over your top teeth. Pull top lip down 20-25 times quickly, but do try to feel [concentrate] the muscle under your nose being stretched.  Results-my nose no longer points south and now appears less bulbous

Anna Marie

Hi Anna Marie

Thanks so much for the up-date, and the training tip! Please... check in next month ;-)

To Emma  Oct 12, 2000

Thanks Emma for your response. It's really encouraging to hear that you too have tried other products with limited results, but that you are having such positive results from using flexeffect. Perhaps I will give it a go then. I'd be interested to hear how you progress. Please post it on the board, it will be much appreciated.

Smile  Oct 11, 2000

Don't know if you can help with this one, but here goes. My smile goes up on my left side, but across to down on the right side. Which exercise can I do to have the right side go up? I have your book and the exercises are going okay with moderate improvement over the past few months. I notice an overall healthier look to my face. I don't think it is psychological and I didn't take pictures because... who takes pictures of themselves??   I don't think my arms are long enough for the focus!!!

Book   Oct 11, 2000

Has anyone come across Santa Maria Runge's Face Lifting by Exercise? She too claims that hers is the only exercise program to restore contour to the face and lift. Who are we to believe, there are so many of you out there? Is it all a con? I've tried three different face exercise programs, Eva Fraser's, Carole Maggio's, and Jilly Johnson's, and none of them work. In fact they make wrinkles worse. I still want to believe that there is a program out there that works, but if there is, how do we know
which program is the one. Sorry for being cynical, but I've been bitterly disappointed so often, and don't want to waste any more money.

Jan

Hi Jan,

I too was a bit bewildered at the shear number of people claiming their exercises worked miracles. I myself tried Eva Frasher system and others, and achived limited results. If it helps, I've been flexing for around 3 months now- I was doubtful at the beginning- but the changes so far are really encouraging: overall firmer face, healthier look, fine lines around the eyes have almost disappeared; everywhere from my neck/chin to my forhead have all changed for the better. Whenever I meet a friend or relative they invariably comment on how well I look; that never happened before, it's a nice thing to have to get used to. I'm looking forward to seeing the results at the 6month mark!

I'd definitely give it a go. Once you get into it, you'll be hooked.

Emma

P.S - My only connection with FlexEffect is that I'm a very satisfied customer

Jan,

You don't know.....until you try. For myself, this program works! I recently purchased Carole Maggio's book, Facercise, just to acquaint myself with her program. I found the energy transfer
parts of her exercises to be rather hokey, especially the exercise Face Slimmer, "Use your mind-muscle connection and visualize the sides of your face moving up and out past the jawline to the top of the head. Place one hand on each side of your face and slowly move hands up along the sides of your face as you visualize your face lifting." According to the picture in the book you don't use your hands to touch your face; you merely move your hands up and down in the air ostensibly to transfer the energy. I can see why people try these methods and become discouraged. I certainly would.

But Deb's program doesn't use questionable Eastern meditation/transference of energy baloney. It's great to visualize what you want as goal setting but that in and of itself is not going to result in changes to either the body or the face. Ya gotta do the work, too. I can't tell you either that any program will work for you. Some people will attempt a program whether for the body or the face and nothing seems to work. Consistency, technique, dedication all play a part. But you won't know until you try.

Chin Exercises   Oct 11, 2000

first of all, i'd like to thank deb and team for the book, i've been doing certain exercises for only a month, and am already seeing results.

i'm primarily working the chin/ neck area, trying to eliminate double chin and jowls.   i'm doing these exercises:  22 (chin lift), 24 (tongue press), 26 (open mouth), 27 (teeth clencher), 29 (reverse chew), 30 (protruding jaw a-&-b), 34 (lower lip curl adv.), and 40 (head lift a-&-b).

are there any other exercises that i'm missing?  or any modifications/ enhancements to these exercises that you could suggest?  i'd like to do as much as possible, so any additional stuff is greatly appreciated!

thanks!

Wanted: flexers over 45 and 50 years old   Oct 7, 2000

Dear Deb, Olympia, Jason and ALL OTHERS ON THIS BOARD,

I'd like to hear more from the older flexers - both positive and non positive results that you've noticed. Now although Olympia and Jason - you two look great, you are younger than the
demographic that often needs flexing the most. I realize you have both improved - however when young skin is more elastic. Besides, when I was 40, I looked great w/o any facial exercise.

Now Deb, you look great. However, I want to hear more from other flexers over 45 and ideally over 50. COME ON DON'T BE SHY. . .

Tell us if this is working for you - the pros and the cons.

Almost as important as before and after photos (although nothing beats photos for the best testimonials), outside of that -I'd like to hear from that prime demographic that starts to really need the most help from flexing.

Until I hear from all the strong, brave and quiet, - perhaps Deb and the trainers can pipe in from their experiences with people over 50 that they have trained.

Tell me about your flexing results. You can email me directly at jaimenich@yahoo.com if you are too shy to write here.  And again, FOR DEB, OLYMPIA AND JASON, tell me about students in
your classes over 45 and 50. Have you seen them before and after

Thanks for the forum,
Jamie

Hi Jamie

You bring up an excellent point and one that at first made me hesitant in dispensing my own opinion. Because I started so early with FlexEffect, I haven't had to deal with problems concerning sag, as I guess Deb, too, has not had a problem with either. Much of what I say comes from my own experience, my own research into cosmetic surgery, and research into the aging process, and health
and fitness information which I digest.

We have Tori's pictures and a couple of brief responses on the board from her. We have had numerous testimonials of people in their 40s and 50s on the board tellings us about their results
and reactions from people who've noticed the difference. But it would also be nice to hear in detail from the 50 plus crowd about their trials and successes with FlexEffect. So c'mon Flexers over
50. Let us know what's going on!

Jason

Jamie

I will soon be 46 and have been flexing for 2 months total. Things I notice: Jowls a little less, eyes a little wider, cheeks more defined. There is definitely something to this. I am looking forward to the one-year mark!

Renee

Hi Renee

Thank you so much Renee ...keep up with those progress reports!

All my best,
Olympia

Hi Jamie:

Yes darlin', ditto to you and Jason's response.  What I've been encountering in trying to establish FlexEffect in Massachusetts is this exact point which you have brought up.

People over 50 say, " Hey, ya look great, but so did I at your age.....I want to see people at MY AGE, who have had the same problems and who do this and have had the results you say will
happen."

In truth, my response to that is "Go to the Board and look at Deb...she IS your age (or there abouts) and see what it has done for her."  I also tell them, you need to look at this from an exercise
perspective as well and what you yourself know about the effects of exercise, what is can and will do for the body - specifically resistance training.  I have to pose the questions:  "Okay, what happens when you start on a program of regular exercise, what changes happen, what happens to your muscles and your body when you consistently work them out, are there improvements...one has to look at this logically...we know that when you challenge muscle it grows, how is the face any
different from the rest of the body and why would you think its any different.....????"  That's where I get the, "Well, ya have a point, that's true..makes sense when you put it that way."

All that being said, I gotta tell you, I completely understand why we need to hear from those who are 50+ and making gains....and I know you guys are out there!  Because the truth is, someone like myself or Jason and Deb, who started earlier on this program with minimal atrophy, may make gains much quicker than say someone who is 55 or 60.  That doesn't mean anyone 50+ won't make gains or experience dramatic results.  You get going on this program aggressively and consistently I don't care what your age, you're going to progress and achieve - I have not doubts regarding this.  But perhaps those flexers who are 50+ may experience response time that may be slower in coming but it will come.

On the other hand, those who are 50+, often times, can see and the results much sooner than those of us who are 20,30 and 40+ - because, how shall I put this....you've stimulated - shaken up and made those facial muscles wake up and rise to the challenge - both literally and figuratively!  So bottom line everyone is going to have progress and gains with this fabulous program, only at different rates..some sooner than others.

I've gone off on one of my tangents again, but your point is an "excellent"   and extremely important one and we absolutely need to hear from those of you 50+ who are making progress/gains in your flexing.....to motivate all  your fellow Flexers' out there who need that encouragement and hope that "YES this program will make a difference for you, you will achieve lift no matter what your age.....
.".

I'm so glad you brought this up!

All my best,
Olympia

Jamie

Well, I may be brave and older, but I am certainly not quiet!  Lol.  Besides, I am not "older"; I am simply aging with an attitude.   I am 58 yrs of age.  I have been flexing almost 5 mos. now.   I am consistent....6 to 7 nights a week.  I like to leave one night off, just because I think it is a good idea to give your skin etc. a 'rest'. Nobody HAS to do this; however.is not a requirement and not probably even necessary.  I love the results and benefits to date and anticipating more and ore more
positive results.  The first thing I noticed was my cheeks and eyes...there is a marked improvement in these areas.  Next noticed the lip area...very big improvement here.  I do have certain amount of facial sag, of course, being 58 and also had a substantial weight loss...this is improving...as is neck area but I do see this is going to take much more time and  repetition to get the desired results..even if I don't get 100% results I want, the ones I am getting are quite encouraging.  I would not stop doing this if you told me my face was going to erupt into my ear lobes.  no way.....I see too much change.  O.K...there is a slightly awkward stage for some persons...depending on tone and atrophy and whatever.  I did not really experience much of this, but since my skin and muscles were not in such hot shape to start with, maybe I did not even notice....LOL. I see every sore muscle and every more response on one side than the other stuff, simply a stepping stone to the next plateau.   I would advise anyone to stick with it.  If I can see results at 58, I am dead certain a younger person will see much more rapid response.  I, however; am pleased with what I am getting, as prior, I was getting nothing.  All you have to do is do it!

Jean

Hey Jean - ya see me smiling darlin'???  You go girl! Thank you Ms. 58 with an attitude and fabulous....could you be anything less....I think not!

All my best,

Olympia :-D

Lift in face   Oct 5 ,2000

Hello I've got the book and am finally doing the exercises consistently.  In a month my face looks fuller but will there be lift.  I'm happy to see the fullness but will the tone of my face be lifted as I have this sad look.  Thanks for your help and all the encouraging messages on the discussion board so I'm sure I'll hear some great words of wisdom.

All the best,

Olympia  Oct 3, 2000

Hi Olympia

Just seen your photo and I notice from the discussion board that you said you're coming up to 40. You do look much younger. My question is, did you have much sag etc. before you used flexeffect? What I mean is, did you notice a big difference after using flexeffect? A before photo would be great of course!!  Can't wait!

Tanya

Hi Tanya:

I did start to develop puffiness under the eye area, some beginnings of hooding over the upper eye area with creapiness, terrible nasal labial folds and frown lines (these are the worst -I'm still working on the darn things, but I've had great improvement despite how stubborn they are) - and all of this is
pretty much both due to genetics (as we are a mosaic of our parents). My skin texture and color was deteriorating, lacked luster, fine fine lines all over the cheeks and around the lip area.  And my neck - you know how you can count how old a tree is by cutting it in half and counting the rings around it (or so they say) that was my neck!  PLUS I lost a lot of weight, just like Jason, so I looked very gaunt looking and drawn. I was a mess.

I never took before pictures which I truly regret. I'm still trying to locate THE and only picture which basically through me into a tizzy when I saw it - I was huge, gained a lot of weight,  and for the first time I was developing jowls and it freaked me out when I laid eye's on it. BUT that's the picture that made me SEE my true REALITY - which was not a pretty sight let me tell ya.  It's a side view...and if I can locate it, I'll send it to Deb to post it.

Did I notice a big difference from FlexEffect?  You betcha sweet bippy I did (I loved Laugh In and Joanne Worley).  I was doing my isometric exercises, and they were supposed to be working.  So
when I saw this horrible picture, I knew they were not working and started my frantic search for something - anything out there.  Someone had to have come up with something....So, when I came across Deb's site and read everything there,  I KNEW THIS WAS THE ONE!  It just made complete sense to me.  So I called her, we chatted a while, she sent me my video, I studied it over
and over for an hour or so, and kick started my facial resistance training regimen.   The very first time I could feel my muscles working- that fabulous lactic acid burn - so I knew, coming from my body building background, that this was doing it's job and to going to work for me.  I'm one of those not so gentle types, so when Deb said pull, I really pulled and when she said contract the muscle, I did it like there was no tomorrow. Hey, more is better! Well, in this case...LOL

I did make my mistakes at the very beginning:  for instance, instead of working the entire cheek area, I omitted most of the exercises and concentrated on working the caninus to get rid of the nasal labial folds.  Well the results looked like I overdeveloped the area and it knew it was my own laziness and
neglect of the other muscle groups which was causing this weird look. So, once I got up to speed with my cheeks, doubling up to make up for lost time, I was doing great.  My eyes reacted really
quickly and that was great.

So it's a big old YES - this program was my be all end all to saving face (and neck).   I stand behind Deb and this fabulous program 1000% because it just works - no baloney - plain and simple. There is truly no program out there that can say what Deb says and deliver - because they just don't exist.  THIS IS THE ONE! The cool thing is, even if you are a doubting Thomas or Thomasina, if you actually do this program and truly commit to it for one month's time, you'll be a convert and be addicted for life.

This program has become an inherent part of my life, just like brushing and flossing my teeth, my daily below the neck workouts (LOL - had to specify) - because of the results I see and moreover the positive feedback I receive from those I come in contact with on a daily basis.  Everytime I state my age and that shocked look comes over them and the next words are "did you have a face lift or something"....that's when I start preaching the Gospel of FlexEffect....and let me tell ya, I could not speak about it or teach it if I did believe in it.  It's interesting, I don't know how people sell anything they don't even know about or believe in, or know if it really works and live with themselves.. especially something that makes false claims and is all hype and propaganda.  Personally, I couldn't do that and live with myself and I wouldn't want anyone to do that to me. That's why I can sit here with an open heart and tell you without any doubt, over and over again (and believe me, I'm never sick of talking about FlexEffect or Deb, Jason or all you wonderful people) because it is one of my passions and I know what I say to be true.

Anyway,  I've gone off on my tangents, but, I hope amongst the rubble I've answered your questions.

All my best,
Olympia

Round Face  Oct 2, 2000

Olympia or Jason:

I've been flexing for about a month.  My face looks more "round".  Is there a reason for the "roundness"?

thanks
Esther

Hi Esther,

Well since you're only about one month into the exercises, I would say you're probably getting some temporary post exercise swelling. You'll see the same thing after lifting weights, that pumped up look. If your face has a tendency to have a round look the exercises could encourage that. You will have to be extra careful to build areas that need it and perhaps work other areas a bit less intensely to offset the roundness that a full hard work out might produce. If you need specifics, just e-mail me and we'll talk more.

Unbelievably happy!   Sep 30, 2000

Deb....

Wanted to let you know that I received the video and  book  about 2 weeks ago. Have been doing all the exercises since that day, and I can't believe the difference in such a short time. My face feels firmer, skin tighter and I'm feeling great about what I see in the mirror. I keep thinking this is too good to be true, as I was resigned to age gracefully and just accept the nature of things. But now I know, I can reverse some of the sagging with your exercises. I'm feeling very hopeful and determined to stick with it based on the results I have seen so far. I do have questions on some of the exercise techniques, but will save that for a different post. Thanks also for sending my order so promptly. Bye for now....GONE FLEXING!

Re: Kessey's reguest    Sep 27, 2000

I'd be happy to tell you my little story.  At age 45 I was starting to look like Ms. Potato Head and decided to try and do something about it - I did isometrics for about a year and noticed some change but not enough - I did a web search and found this bulletin board and became interested.

For my 46th birthday, I bought the book and started the exercises of course since I don't follow directions too well, I only did some of them.  After about six months I noticed a big difference.  For the last 8 months or so, I have been doing ALL of the exercises every day and noticing an even better result.  No more Ms. Potato Head.   It takes dedication but it is worth it.

Nose Lift     Sep 25, 2000

Hi,

I have noticed in the two years I have been doing FlexEffect that I can see a difference in several areas. I know I look better around the eyes.  My mouth area is much better.  I do not have a puppets mouth now.  No line from lips to chin!   That was one of the first things to go!  Hallelujah!  It was getting really bad.  (you know it's getting bad when your husband starts calling you Howdy Doody!)

I do have one exercise that caused me problems, so I stopped doing it.  Nose lift.   It fills in the area next to the nose/eyes.  The problem I had was my eye glasses no longer fit.  They were too small in that section. My nose got wider.   Was I doing it wrong?   Has anyone else had this problem.  I stopped doing it last year and now it is getting noticeable again.  I see a line where there was none this spring.  Any suggestions?

I have also noticed that it not only takes time to build the muscles, but if you have very little tone to your skin, you need to start there.  When I started Flex Effect, I had little tone to my skin.  Not much happened. Even after nearly a year.  Not enough tone to work with.   I tried another persons routines, built the tone, and now Deb's is really taking off and showing. I needed a starting point.  I think it is different for each of us.  I am 45, and look about 38.  Just think how young I'll look when I get ALL the areas of my face and neck toned and lifted!

Carol (modemfun)

Hi Carol:

Sounds like your are doing and looking fabu!

Re:  Nose Lift: actually you were doing it right.  It does build up the area between the nose and cheeks, so I'm not surprised about the glasses not fitting.  The other evidence you have that it was working so well was now that you stop Nose Lift, a line is forming where there wasn't one.

I would say start right up again with Nose Lift to build up the area again so you can get rid of that line before it gets worse.  Your only dilemma is that you have make a personal decision:  do I keep the glasses and let the line form, or do I build up the area which will get rid of the line and acquire new glasses or contacts. They can't adjust the nose pieces on the glasses?

I know eyeglasses can be expensive.....but a face lift cost so much more, and having a line where you don't want it is just plain lousy (we can all relate). From what you've written, you have done so incredibly well with the program that it would be a shame to leave certain parts of your face alone.. ..an incomplete masterpiece.

I'd ditch the old glasses...it's a new you anyway right?.... start up with your Nose Lifts, do a full comprehensive FlexEffect workout and go for broke.....that's my personal suggestion!

Hey Deb and Jason....what do you guys think about this scenario....I can't think of any other options (other than plastic surgery) to fix the problem with building up the Quadratus labii superioris to the point where her old glasses will fit....I mean, that's what we're going for with the program is build and lift...so...I don't quite know what else to say...

Any other veteran flexors who wear glasses been encountering similar problems?  I'd be curious to hear....

You know Carol, I'm really glad you brought this up, because I don't wear glasses and was ignorant to the fact that this would be a problem.  Thanks for making me think.....

Good-luck in your decision,

All my best,
Olympia

Hi Carol

I have not been doing flexeffect long enough to have to yet buy new glasses...but yes I am noticing my glasses do not fit as they did..I had them adjusted.   Was simple.  I know I will have to purchase new ones pretty soon down the road...and that is o.k with me!!!!  Will be my banner of achievement to have to buy new glasses!  My nose has not gotten 'bigger' or wider especially, just filled in in the areas where the nose pieces are resting.  Any eyeglass place will readily adjust these for you, usually at little or no charge at all.

Jean

Hi Carol

Hi Carol,

I also overbuilt my nose area. Since we all have different faces, what might work well, let say for Deb, did not always work for me. I have found that I need to adjust my workouts for MY face. Here was my problem, I did the nose lifts ALOT, because I was getting the valley look in the inner corners of my eyes. When I did the exercise just the way the video said, I over developed the muscle that runs into the upper furrow (above the lips). Since the muscle ABOVE the furrow was raised or built up, my upper furrows look deeper and worse and my face looked like it was sagging. I happen to have a small mouth area to begin with, so I by overbuilding the area above, only made matters worse.

So what I did was, place my fingers into the valley part or grove part under my eyes, not on the sides of my nose. Then I did the exercise like usual, scrunching my nose and pushing the muscle down, but I instead of going straight down the nose, I followed the grove or valley which sort of goes down and out toward my ears. Considering that I haven't been real consistent on my exercises, I still saw results,  the upper furrows look much better and the eyes look a little better too.

I did check with Deb on this and she said that was a good idea. After doing these exercise for over 1 year and bugging the hell out of these kind people on Deb's web, I'm starting to learn  that this whole concept behind the facial exercise routine is to find what fits your face and be willing to play around and adjust. I'll always double check with the Deb or her trainers first, but I don't get upset if it doesn't work out fine the first time. I hope this helped.

Linda

Just had to say something   Sep 24, 2000

Hi Deb,

I just finished reading Wanda's post and was tickled - I have been flexing for about a year and although I don't look 18 either (why would I want to), I'm 47 and can still stop traffic. I'm just delighted with the results. Thanks for sharing your program with us!!!!!!

Jeanie

Hi Jeanie

You're more than welcome ;-)

Deb

983

Gee... are we really sure this works?   Sep 20, 2000

Deb -&- everyone,
I returned to the board this morning and after reading through the posts, I'm feeling really insecure here. Got me to thinking - since I don't have a before picture of my face, how do I really know this is working ? After all, I'm 40 years old, been flexing for almost 10 months now, and I STILL don't look 18 again ! What am I doing wrong ? Just because I can feel that my skin is tighter, my cheeks are higher, my undereye area is smoother than ever, those pesky creases at the tops of my cheeks
are suspiciously absent now, what lines I had forming between my brows are much better, crows feet are practically a thing of the past, thin lips run in my family but mine are full.  I was carded when my younger friend wasn't ... um, I just don't know about all this.  Hold on a minute, let me check my mirror - WHOA BABY ! DAMN BUT I AM FINE !!  Oh Miss Deb, forgive me for ever doubting how GORGEOUS "your exercises" have made me. See what the naysayers can do if you let them ? and yes, I said "your" exercises. I've looked the Internet over and upside down and our Deb is the only one I've ever found with RESISTANCE exercises. Everyone who is a pioneer in their field has to take plenty of criticism, and ya wanna know what I say ? BRING IT ON BABY, BRING IT ON ! You have NO idea what yer messin with ! A lot of incredibly happy, upbeat Flexers. Why so happy ? Because we look GOOD ! I don't ever need a before picture to show me what this has done for me, and even though I've always loved to write and express my feelings, there just aren't  words to express my feelings about this program, what it has done for me, or about our Deb. The magnitude and depth of my feelings are so huge for this beautiful Lady and what she has done for us - oh shoot, if I were only a poet !!  ( Hey Deb, can ya feel the love?) LOL... On a more serious note - I would never, ever give my personal stamp of approval on a product that didn't work. And even though I can't keep my mouth shut about it and tell everyone I come in contact with about Flexing, I don't get upset if they tell me I'm going to damage my poor skin by pulling at it so ! Or they need pictures for proof ! I just feel awfully sorry for these people. Deb has given us the fountain of youth for our faces and all we have to do is muster up a tiny grain of faith to take that first step and try it for ourselves. I'm so glad I was open minded enough to do just that !!

Wanda :)

PS There's a good side and a bad side to all this. The good - it doesn't take me nearly as long to get ready to go out now. I don't have to wear all that heavy make-up trying to hide the dark circles and puffy eye bags like I use to. The bad - this Flexing is making it really hard to go anywhere where there's mirrors. I just HAVE to have a peek at the younger me ! 5 mirrors = 5 quick stops etc... The Mall is a hazard !  LOL

Taut skin    Sep 15, 2000

Hi Deb,

I'm in my early twenties and have been doing the exercises in your book now for a little over two months and see great improvements. (Late nights and study were starting to have an effect on my face). What I would like to have is tighter skin on my face- I'm my correct body weight and am quite healthy, but the skin on my face is a bit loose (It wasn't always). To achive this I was thinking of concentrating on reducing my body fat as opposed to over-building my face. Would this eventually lead to the skin on my face becoming more taut? Even with flexing, is facial fat still an important part in having a healthy looking face?

Thanks for everything,

Eric

Hi Eric:

First, let me say, you're starting face building at the perfect age - it's your prescription for preventing atrophy.  Bravo.

Okay, you stated that you are in your early 20's - so unless you've had some sever health problems, most young people in that window of age do not have any type of severe slacking, draping, lose skin.  Your skin in your early 20's is very elastic, lots of dermal collagen, thick, flexible, tissues are quick to respond to stimulus, although you may have some heavy duty sun damage if you've not been careful, but you get fix that for the most part by using at least a SPF 30 every day, and using one or two of the wonderful antiaging topical therapies out there.

Late night studies, lack of sleep, stress do take there toll on our appearance - always shows up around the eye area first.  Unless you feel you need to lose weight, I wouldn't advise it in terms of attempting to make your skin appear tighter.  This won't help in your plight.  A good example would be Bodybuilders, whose diets in preparing for competition, are extremely strict, the
purpose of which is to reduce their body fat levels, reducing them down to as low as is physically possible.  The result is that the appearance of their faces, no matter what their ages, usually look much older and gaunt looking.

Don't worry about overbuilding the face.  If you find that you've overbuilt a certain area, perhaps the Frontalis and Corragator area, where I believe Jason refers it to the Neanderthal look - then just back off those specific exercises for a few weeks, let the muscles atrophy a bit to where your happy with the look and then begin again.  If you do have this slight problem of loose skin, face building will definitely tighten it up.

Fat does play a role in the way our faces look as we age. When we're young, our faces have more subcutaneous fat, (as well as minimal sun damage...etc) and give our faces a much more smooth
supple look.  Fat contains hormones as well, that help in keeping our skin look and act more youthful. Our skin is dewy, resilient, a strong healthy barrier, the infrastructure of which is pretty
perfect.

As we get older, we start to lose that subcutaneous fat, degradation of the skin due to all of the external and internal elements we can ever mention,  leaving our faces to look older.  Bottom line = We can build our facial muscles to help compensate for that fat loss.

Let us know how you a doing.

Good-luck with the program and with your studies,

Olympia

Proof is in your control.   Sep 13, 2000

Hi All

I began this program with the idea in mind that if these exercises really work I would see the differences on my own face. I for one am skeptical looking at before and after photos anyway as they can be easily retouched. So with that in mind I decided I would just DO THEM and then I would know.

Reading through the discussion board also motivated me more than the pictures of Tori. Anyway I have seen positive changes. Am one week shy of five months into flexing. When I would get
discouraged I would read thru the postings and get inspired to keep going. I really wanted to give this program a chance as it made so much sense to me that it should work.

I am very happy that I stuck it out. The changes in my jawline and chin area has thrilled me!! I now have all the motivation I need to continue in because I most definitely see results on my own face. And now just like reading a good novel that you can't put down because you have to find out what happens next....I find I can't stop doing these exercises because I have to see how much more improvement will I see next month and the one after that....

Thank you Deb for your wonderful program. I for one KNOW these exercises are effective as I have seen the results with my own two eyes on my own face and that is all the proof I need!!

Bonnie

Hi Bonnie

You are very welcome, and thank you.

Deb

Response to Bonnie:

AMEN AND DOUBLE AMEN.  YOU ARE SO RIGHT.  I, too, and  m a n y  of us see the proof in our own faces.  Most women at least depend on other women for input...pictures don't really tell it all.  and yes, they can be 'fudged' somewhat.  Tori's pictures are extremely impressive, but that is not what motivated me either...not even totally in the beginning.  It was this board and the response of the people doing these exercises...and the wonderful backup and info you receive from Olympia, Deb. Jason and all.  And most impressing is I can see and feel for myself the benefits and effects.  What else do I need to know?

Rededicating my face to Flexing    Sep 12, 2000

Hi just wanted to chime in after a long absence (work, kids, stress, summer, life!!!) Embarrassingly, the last time I logged on here the postings were in the 600's yee gads! I have been doing minimalist flexing but maximum GUILT time! I am now back at flexing (yeeowch!) but it feels so great to re-
connect with all those muscles in my face! I am now officially 35 (I was 34 when my whole "oh my god my face is aging" crisis began, hence finding FlexEffect) and strangely, I am more mellow about the whole thing.I was reading in a beauty catalogue about some "miracle" lip cream that stopped the lipstick bleeding that occurs with "older lips" and here is what it said: "as we age, our muscles actually shrink and your lips are NO exception! You may find your lipstick begins to feather"... you know the rest of the blurb was about how this inevitable shrinkage can be ameliorated with this $25 cream. It reminded me "hello! Exercise your danged mouth and perhaps it is NOT inevitable!" SO, I am glad to be checking back in with the community and slowly working my face into shape. It has been fun reading all the posts since my lapse.I look forward to checking in more frequently.
Happy flexing!

Megan

Nose Lift    Sep 11, 2000

Hi there it's been a while and the exercises are going great I can see my face filling out in places I thought would be impossible.  One question I would like to ask is if I could get the advanced form of the nose lift please.

Thank you,

Margherita.

Hi Margherita

Check again on the name of the exercise you are looking for... don't have an advance form of  Nose Lift...I'll be happy to give it to you.    Get back to me!

Progress Report    Sep 2, 2000

This weekend is my 11 month!  I recently purchased the book and I am very happy that I did.  I felt I had outgrown the exercises on the video.  I feel like the new exercises that I have incorporated into my routine, have speeded up my results.  I think it is important to mention the word "COMMITMENT".   My twin sister and I purchased the video 11 months ago.  She gave up on it about 3 months into because she felt it was "too much work".  Instead she spends her money on expensive facial creme and whining on how old she looks (we are 42 yrs old). Now she is talking about a face lift.  I stop whatever I am doing at 9:30 PM each night to do my exercises regardless if I am in the mood or not.  I think it is important to stress that you do these exercises because it makes you feel good about yourself.  That you are WORTH the time and energy and you deserve to look and feel good.     P.S.  My cheeks are so strong that as we say in Texas "I could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch"!!!

Hi Lynne

You're so right about commitment.   I remember hearing... "Come-on, if something as easy as facial exercise really worked, no one would have wrinkles"  My response... and if dieting really worked, no one would be over weight!

I, too, sit here with my magnifying mirror and magnifying glass......in direct sunlight..and all I know is I have cheeks where I didn't, eyelids....actual able to be seen eyelids , where I didn't, fuller lips, where I didn't....fuller cheeks where I had none at all barely.....lines  TOTALLY GONE at
bottom lip.....lines diminishing at upper lip...smooth forehead,  definite 'contouring up' of face.....neck stronger, not to mention firmer...complexion w/rosy glow.....I don't really CARE about the scientific reports that say this could not possibly happen and all the reasons why it cannot happen...I say
HA AND DOUBLE HA!!!! IT HAS........IT DID.....AND IT IS!

5 months and counting!    Aug 31, 2000

I have been flexing almost everyday now for 5 months.  My face does seem to be a bit firmer but I have yet to achieve the lift that I'm looking for.  I am really looking for exercises that will build up my face as it is very long and thin. I would like a more rounded appearance.  Can you suggest some exercises that I maybe could double up on to get this look.  I do all the ones on the video plus a few in the book.  What is the best one for the center of the cheek area. This area if very hollow and makes me look tired.  Also I haven't had much luck with the lower eyelid.  In some light it looks better but in other light I have bags.  Hope you can help. I'm committed to making this work if it's the last thing I do.

Thank you
Connie

Hi Connie

This sounds like you are dealing more with face structure (long / lean)  than lax muscle but you should still be able to improve your look... Double-up on both Cheek Press exercises. Also sometimes by enhancing another feature of your face,  a look that you don't particularly care for at the time might turn  into a real plus.  I would really go for broke with Mouth Flex. Full lips...high cheekbones... sounds good to me!  You got the right idea.... MAKE IT WORK!

See ya back here.

Progress Report    Aug 31, 2000

Deb -&- Everyone,

I've been away from the board for a while, but have been Flexing 5 X a week. I just hit the 9 month mark and couldn't be happier! You know how it's hard to see changes in yourself sometimes? Well a couple of weeks ago I went to visit my daughter who I haven't seen for about 3 months, and the whole week I was with her she never said a word about any changes she may have noticed. I was disappointed because I really thought I had noticed some changes but maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part for a firmer, younger looking face. After returning home I continued my Flexing (even though my great results were apparently only noticeable to me, it made me feel good to do
them). While talking to my daughter on the phone after this, she asked if I was still doing "those face exercises". She asked because she had noticed such a dramatic change in my face!! She thought I might be sensitive about the subject so she hadn't mentioned it earlier. I asked her all sorts of questions - what differences did she notice? Is it very noticeable? She says I look younger now than I ever have! Deb, I can't begin to thank you enough - this inspiring board, the best exercises EVER !
Your unfailing support to all of us. I only hope I can contribute in some way - small as it is.
My helpful tip for keeping a firm grip while doing some of the exercises is to use "loose, translucent powder" on my fingertips. No more slipping! I tried cotton gloves, paper towel, they both left little dry patches on my skin, no matter how gentle I was. But the powder prevents slipping and works wonderful! I hope this helps someone out there. My bottom line is this, NEVER give up! To all of you who are just beginning, yes- it does work- and beautifully !!!

Sincerely, Wanda

Hey Wanda!

Sometimes, when I don't hear from someone over a long period of time, I fear they became discouraged, gave-up or some professional told them ... 'not a good idea'.   Then, out of the blue, I get an e-mail or a call or a letter.....  pretty much saying... "God I love this!" So glad to here from you again!  Now, STAY ON THE BOARD!    You made my day girl ;-)

Deb

Hello fabulous Wanda:

Girl that is so terrific - thank you so much for sharing that wonderful testimonial! It's going to inspire so many of those who may be on the fence about FlexEffect or who are just starting out flexing but aren't quite sure if this is going to really work. Well it sure does work.  My goodness, you know when your own child can tell you she sees a dramatic positive change in your appearance  then it's gotta be everything we say this program is and does and so much more.

Great suggestion to try the translucent powder - I'm going to try it myself.

You just keep flexin'on sugar and keep us updated - glad your back.  I'm elated for you - truly.

All my best,
Olympia
FlexEffect Junkie and proud of it! :-) LOL

Want more results    Aug 29, 2000

Hi

I've been doing the exercises for 5 months and while I have received some results (jowls are less noticeable), I would like to see greater results.  Should I be exercising to the point of "ache"?  I lost 60 lbs. so I do have alot of excess skin and severe muscle tone loss from 7 months of bed rest.  The front and sides of my cheeks have fallen causing deep top and bottom furrows and jowls.  I hang on the hope that in a year it will all kick in.  Thanks, if anyone could send some encouragement my
way, I'd appreciate it.
Scilla

Hi Scilla,

You didn't mention an important factor here, and that is age and the condition of your skin. Younger skin is going to "bounce" back better and faster. After 60 lbs of weight loss (Congratulations btw on your achievement!!), it will take time for the body to reabsorb the extra skin. Depending again upon
age, if you're older, it may not shrink up satisfactorily. If you have excessive amounts of loose skin after a 12 month period of maintaining your current weight, you actually may need more than facial exercise. However, in the meantime, facial exercise will still help tone and build the muscle under the loose skin, so that if you decided you do need more, your face will be in better shape to survive and minimize the rigors of any surgery you decide to do. But don't despair as yet. Give your body time to
adjust to such a dramatic change.

Good luck and Congrats!

Jason

Hi Scilla

7 months of bed rest and the loss of 60 lbs. sounds more like you are dealing with atrophy and the loss of lean mass more so than just loose skin due to weight loss. As soon as your body  gets back into shape (muscle tone etc.) you'll probably have very little loose skin... Judging by several friends who have lost far more than 60 lbs.of weight (age 40-50)...60 lbs. is a considerable amount of weight, but not enough to cause permanent sagging skin. Try not to worry and give yourself a few more months your face will fill out right along with the rest of you.

Questions    Aug 21, 2000

Deb, Jason, and All:

I've been flexing 6 months.  I've noticed that when I sleep longer on weekends, my upper cheek lines and under eye lines are more pronounced when I smile than during the week when I get up early. Is this common?  Will this change when I get to my one year mark?  Also in the mornings after I wash my face, the frown lines and upper furrows are barely there but as the days goes on they're back again.  Will this improve?

Becky

Hi Becky,

What you're describing is common, and also shows that you do have, as I myself have, skin damage where the collagen has begun to break down. Retin A, coupled with the exercises, will help to repair some of this damage. How much of it is a very individual thing. While I have seen a great deal of improvement in my nasolabial folds and lines, they are not, as yet, gone. I, too, notice that during the day right after I've been talking and smiling, they are more pronounced. But after resting for a matter
of minutes they diminish again.

So yes, it does get better. Since you're seeing a noticeable change already at 6 months, I would think you would see even more improvement at the one year mark as I did. Good luck!

Seeing build-up after exercise    Aug 19, 2000

I am finishing up on the 3rd mo. into flex effect....I have noticed lately (just very recently), while doing the exercises...especially wide laugh and top furrow and tight upper lip....I can feel where my muscles are built up.  I can feel a difference while doing the exercises when I put fingers or thumb
in mouth.  There is marked visible 'uplift' in these areas, but actually feeling it is so awesome.  Thx a kazillion for these exercises.  I can't wait for next month! and one after! and so on.  Happy flexing!

Doing something wrong? Acne flare up   Aug 15, 2000

I have doing flex effect for the past month.  What am I doing wrong?  My nose to mouth line is more pronounced.   Instead of my mouth muscles becoming tighter, they are weaker- I tend to drool easier.  Over my eyes look more baggy/puffy/hanging.   I have both tape and video and book.

I am in a bind as I feel like I should stop but am wondering if I would be giving up too quickly.  Help!  I'm in a dilemma!
I also noticed that whenever I massage my face, acne flares up.  I am 52 and am thinking this is hormonal.  Any suggestions as to what I could do to alleviate the problem.  It also happens when I flex the jaw area a little aggressively.

It's good to hear from the veteran flexers.  I have been flexing for a month and sometimes wonder if I am pulling on the eye area too much.  Although Deb says 'no' it would be good to hear from others who have gone through the flex exercises for a year and have actually seen the eye area improve.  I am especially concerned about the upper area which is quite puffy.  How long did that take to start looking good?

Imani's Mom

Hi: Imani's Mom

I thought I would reply regarding the acne problem.  I, too have experienced this. I haven't done the massage part but I can tell you what I do during the exercises. What helps me is that I do the exercises immediately after I wash my face without applying any moisturizer.  After the exercises I wash my face again and that seems to help.   Also, I apply water to my fingertips when I do the exercise where you snarl while you run your finger down the top of your nose and back up again, and the exercise where you snarl and run your middle fingers down the sides of your nose and extend your fingers to the sides of your nose.  It just seemed that running my fingers across these areas would bring on breakouts, but applying a little water stopped the breakouts. I don't apply water to any other exercise because you can't get the resistance you need.

In regards to the eye area, I'm 46 and I'm not a veteran flexer, I've only been flexing for 6 months now but I've noticed a vast improvement in that area to what it was when I first began.  The undereye skin is thicker and firmer to what it was, but I still have a ways to go.  I have no undereye lines, but the lines are there when I smile. Even though I never had a problem with the upper eye area, this area has firmed up more than it was.  Hoped this helped some, but I, too always want to hear what other veteran flexers have to say after a years of flexing.  Will my undereye lines ever go away when I smile?

Becky

Imani's Mom

Many flexers experience just what you are describing when they first start out.  Whenever we challenge tissue there will be a certain amount of fluid buildup (puffy etc.). in the area and some of us really get it.   Don't give up... your skin will become accustomed to the training.
Your training is also working the oil glands BIG TIME.  This will  introduce oil back into the skin, not to mention surfacing any waste in the tissue that has just been lying around.  I know the acne can be a hassle but it too will let up shortly.   KEEP AT IT GIRL!

Up-date    Aug 4, 2000

Hi,

I have been using Deb's facial resistance for over a year now.  On and off.  Due to a bad allergy season last year, and an unknown broken tooth, I did not do much facial exercise last spring. Whenever I tried to do cheek raiser and wide laugh, I had tooth problems.  I had the tooth out and now I can do the exercises that make a difference in my face.  I just wish they would show! I know it takes time to show differences in the face. My face is normally round, so the tone is there, but others don't see it.   I can touch my face and feel it.  What I am saying is, don't give up. It takes time.  Sometimes lots of time!  It will happen.

Some of the differences that I now can see and feel are Frowner and Cheek Raiser.   They are working for me.  When I do the exercises now, I really feel a "pull" on the muscles.  This took
over a year for me.  I also like the way my lips look.  Full and sexy.  The top one is not hiding anymore!  That changed in less than a month.  Also, my eyes are starting to open.  I don't have
Crows Feet much anymore.  Some areas change much faster than others.  Some I saw changing
in a few weeks, others, well, it has been over a year now.  I see and feel the changes, but muscles that have not been challenged in many years take time to redevelop.

Carol  (aka Modemfun)

Hi Carol

Bout time you checked in!  Now that you can really go after the cheek area let us know how long it takes for everything to catch up.   With as much time you've spent in training your comments would be very helpful to all.  Thanks for the up-date...See ya back here ;-)

Puffy Eyes...going, going, GONE! Jul 31, 2000

Hi  Deb,  Olympia, Jason and All,

OK, Dorothy and all those suffering from puffy  eyes...have NO fear...FlexEffect works and You will SEE results!  Really!  I have been working on this for almost a year now and it is almost gone. I went through the same thing you describe Dorothy.   But it didn't last.  Now, people say they don't even notice any puffiness.   Of course I want all puffiness out of my life completely, and I still can notice a little in certain lights.  But for the most part I would say that the war with puffiness has been won!  Thank you Deb!  People, keep at it and do not get discouraged if things take some time.  Go at your own comfortable pace and KNOW you will have success.... and you WILL. And, for all those who are at the stage of wondering WHEN they will see results...  "Keep the faith"  as Deb  once told me.  You Will be glad you did!   Good Luck everyone.   :-)   I also have a question.  Is there any massage that you can suggest for the cheek and jaw line that can be done, that doesn't involve putting fingers in your mouth?   I do those, but it would be nice if  when sitting,  maybe watching tv,   or reading,  to be able to do a facial massage,  without putting my figures in my mouth.  Is there a certain way to massage the tissue that is most effective and that can be done on the outside of the lower cheek and jaw?  Any suggestions would be GREAT.  Thanks.  Take care all.

Eileen

Hey Eileen:

Girl that was inspirational - thank you for your testimonial and support for all out there who are just starting out with FlexEffect.

Re: Massage for Cheeks and Jawline:   For Cheeks:  Smile wide.  Using the pads of your fingers and thumbs, pinch cheeks in a pulling motion.  Work entire upper cheek area using several
movements.

Using center finger of each hand, pat entire cheek area firmly in rapid succession paying strict attention to cheekbone area.

You can do the same for the Lower Cheek area.  And for the Jaw, I make a Sad Face, you can tilt the head back too, hold it there, and pinch and pull in that same manner as you would the upper cheek area.  You can also roll the tissues between your thumb and the side index finger, following from the front of the jawline to the back of the jawline.  Wala - no fingers in mouth!  The point is to just really work the area to increase blood flow and toughen up the tissues.

Good-luck!

My best,
Olympia

Hi Eileen!

It's been awhile...sounds like you're doing great!    Stay close to the Board girl...All you Flex Vets have so much to offer! Olympia has the right idea about the massage, and you can always use the same massage technique that is used for the neck.

4th week of Flexing    Jul 26, 2000

Hi:
I'm now in my 4th week of doing flexeffect.  I can feel firmness around my outer eyelids.  I can see changes all over my face.

I still have a furrow line between my eyebrows from frowning so much.   I'm going to start putting tape on that area at night--hopefully, it will soon diminish.

I'm still taking pictures of myself about every two weeks.  I'm comfortable with my results after 4 weeks.   I'm comfortable doing all those exercises, now.

Let's stay with the program,
Lucy

Hi Lucy

Thanks for the up-date.  Be sure to incorporate the massage involving the brow area!

Under the eye   Jul 25, 2000

I have a question. I've using flexeffect for the past 6 months and I have seen some improvement except the under eye area. I've been doing the lower lid lift, but have not seen much of an
improvement. I am now experiencing another problem when I do the lower lid lift. My right eye, which is more of the problem, begins to twitch after pulling it. I am afraid to keep doing the
exercise. The twitching stops after I place my finger on the lower lid for a while. I do not know if I should continue doing this exercise or not. I've tried it several times, lately, with the same result...the twitching comes back again.  Is there any other under the lid exercise I can do? Do you think this
twitching means I should see an eye doctor? I love your program and I would hate to stop the lid exercise here. I'm already committed, and I would love to continue doing this. What do you suggest?

Marilyn

Hi Marilyn:

Sounds like a little muscle spasm - I get them every now and then myself.  You seem to trigger a response when  you pull on the lower lid and contract it.  I would suggest that you back off for
a couple of weeks on Lower Lid Lift then try it again.

If you feel you need to see a doctor about it to ease your mind, then you should.  I don't know of any other lower lid exercise to give you - Deb will let you know on that one and on all of the
aforementioned.

Again, I would just leave it alone, take a temporary layoff and then try again in two weeks.  Don't worry about losing out on 2 or 3 weeks - remember muscles have memory - jump in again full
force - and you'll be back where you left off in a weeks time.

Good-luck!

Chin   Jul 25, 2000

I've been flexing since February and have definitely noticed improvement everywhere on my face except under my chin. I have saggy skin between the neck and the under-chin area.   And so far, it's not "shrink-wrapping".  I'm 38,  my skin is in very good condition--but the sag that I have in that area isn't going away.   If I pull gently on my jaw skin,  the sag disappears,  so I guess the problem is due to jaw muscle atrophy?    Will this area ever improve??  What more can I do??

Ann

Hi Ann

The neck can be a lot of work at times but at age 38 as far as facialbuilding goes...you're still a baby...just keep at it.  You might want to give Retin-A a shot if you're not already using it and I can tell you this; regular bodybuilding can also make a big difference when it comes to the neck.  If you are working out at a gym, go after shoulders, traps, pecs they all tie into the neck and can make a tremendous difference.   Keep us up to speed!

Update at 5 months    Jul 25, 2000

Deb:

I'm the one that wrote Post 781 asking about the book.  You asked about my training and an update. Well, I flex everyday sometimes doubling up on the undereye exercises and the neck
exercises which seems to give me the most problem.  I usually do 50 head lifts a day and 10 to the count of 8 of the exercise where you put both hands under the neck and make a sad face. I've noticed a big difference, however, I notice if I "pig out" too often and not maintain my usual diet, I tend to have a sag-ier neck.  I think this is also genetic as it runs in my family.  But nevertheless let me stress that doing this many neck lifts and the other exercise has firmed my neck area and if
I don't get off the band wagon with my diet, the sagging neck is NEARLY gone!

As for my undereye areas, I don't have any lines, but when I smile they're there.   Also, like some flexers, I have to lay off the cheek exercises for a while and I do notice a difference.  Right now, I'm only doing the upper cheek exercises (The exercise where you hold the lower lids down and smile) four times a week so they won't overbuild too fast and make the undereye lines look worse.

I've had my days of where I hardly saw any undereye lines and my days of doubt when they were there again the next day, but I know it's going to get better because it already has from the
day I started FlexEffect.  All in all, I wouldn't trade this exercise program for anything.  I've noticed that my overall appearance is different in that I'm beginning to see lift and my skin isn't thin and gaunt like it was. My skin even glows more than it used too.  My only regret is not taking pictures in the
beginning.

Let me add too that I've used Retin-A for years and Retin-A alone without Flexeffect just don't cut it.  I still had a saggy and gaunt look.  Retin-A with Flexeffect goes hand in hand as one compliments the other.

I just can't wait to see the results in February, 2001.

Becky

Hi Becky

Thanks for a terrific update!  It's still not too late for pictures. Take a target picture (an area you are really going after).

Up and down results  Jul 23, 2000

Hi everyone,
I will soon be approaching 4 months.  Somedays I look better than other days.  I was wondering if the changes ever become permanent in so far as we can go for a few days or weeks without having to exercise.  I notice if I skip for a couple of days I look pretty awful again.

Hi Scilla

Yes, as you get farther down the road you can skip some days. But just like in bodybuilding, you'll notice that after you've just worked out your body looks better, more buffed. Same way with your face. After only 4 months of bodybuilding, you wouldn't expect those changes to be long lasting if you were to back off and become lax in your training. The face is really no different. I've been doing the exercises now for a year and a half and now exercise three to four times a week....just like I lift weights. FlexEffect is an exercise program that is a life-long commitment, the same kind of commitment you would make in bodybuilding if you want to keep the look of a toned, buffed body. Does that mean you can never take a vacation? No. It just means that a vacation is just that. A short period of rest, then you're back at it.
Hope I've helped :-)

New Flexer    Jul 12, 2000

Just wanted to let you know I've been flexing for 2 weeks and I can feel and see a difference in my cheeks, furrow lines between brows, and a change in chin area and furrow lines between nose
and mouth.   My daughter is taking pictures of me on bi-weekly basis.

lucy

Hi Lucy:

First let me say - Welcome Aboard!  That's the way to do it - take those pictures and you'll be able to see and monitor your progress over the months to follow. You are going to be amazed quite literally with the positive changes taking place in  your face and neck.

It's funny, but despite doing FlexEffect for over a year and a half, I'm still amazed at my progress..please continue to keep us posted on your facial achievements!!!!!

My best,
Olympia

Damn those top furrows!    Jul 11, 2000

Just to let you know that I'm almost 4 months into the program. I definitely notice improvements... heck, whenever I now wash my face I'm a impressed out how much fuller and fleshier my cheeks and forehead is. My eyes are looking good and the circles under my eyes are much less noticeable.

Unfortunately, my biggest problem is the top furrows and I still haven't noticed much difference. I guess it will just take more perseverance and flexing... and, yes, I've read over and over on this board that this is the hardest spot to smooth, etc., etc.

By the way, when are we going to see pictures of Olympia, Jason, more before/after pics of anyone, and/or even a new pic of Deb! Pictures make such great motivation!

I'll keep you guys posted on my progress.

Robbie

P.S. I still maintain that the cassette is the *best* part of the program. I don't think I could do the exercises without it! I've gotten to the point where I flex while watching TV with the cassette playing quietly in the background just to keep me on beat.
Hey Robbie
Thanks for the up-date... and about that pic...Just as soon as I lose 5 lbs  LOL!

Upper lip   Jul 10, 2000

Hi everyone.

It is me again.  This time I have an upper lip! Well of course I HAD one, but it is so improved within such a short period of time that it scares me it will just all 'go away'.  The lines above upper lip still evident of course..but the firmness there is definite.  I know because I wear dentures...took them out to 'inspect any changes'...and what a difference!  Now, I am not going to run about without my teeth to prove this point..but this is a test not to be questioned.  I am rapidly becoming a believer.  I am impressed,  I have about decided why I don't have lines and wrinkles on forehead and between eyebrows, they all dropped to my lower face and jowls!!   I have plenty of sagging there to really know a difference when there is one.   Note I said WHEN AND NOT IF..I realize 'appearance and good looks' is NOT what makes a woman
beautiful...it is her presence, confidence; whatever you want to call it.  Without it, all the smoothness in the world isn't going to make a hill of difference...HOWEVER I WANT ALL THE SMOOTHNESS AND FIRMNESS ANYWAY!!!!!  I will go check out my upper lip now, as I truly halfway expect it to disappear ..keep checking to make sure it hasn't!   I love reading all the posts...they are EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND ENCOURAGING.

Jean

Hey Jean:

Regarding your upper lip improvement and the fear of it going away - NO CHANCE - it's not going anywhere because your not going to stop your training - keep flexing girl!   Everytime you look in
the mirror, all you're going to see is improvement on the improvements.  Don't you love all this positive reinforcement, and it's all in your hands - you're the one whose doing it!  Sounds like your hooked for life just like so many of us.  Thanks for the update.

My best,
Olympia :-)

Lift temple area   Jul 3, 2000

Hi Deb!

I've been doing the exercises for almost 3 months now and I'm beginning to see some lift.  I definitely feel muscles in my cheekbone area.  I am getting some lift in that one droopy eye area I wrote about earlier, not enough yet, but I'll try it a little longer.  I am needing a lift from the outside corner temple area and up.  When I lift this area with my fingers it seems to be what that area needs to look lots better.  Which of your exercises target this temple lift area?
Thanks.
Trish
Hi Trish

I have Cheeks!!!  Jun 30, 2000

Hi everyone!  I am going into 3rd wk....Hey...I have cheeks!!! I actually can discern them from the rest of my face!!!  And guess what else?  I HAVE EYE LIDS....I DO!!!!  When I look directly in the mirror, I have eyelids.  I have not seen my eyelids in 8 yrs......is life great or what???  Is it too soon to start doing
the exercises twice a day instead of once?  Or can I just concentrate on problem areas twice a day?  I don't want to get carried away with myself and dislodge something vital....And just about every area demonstrated in your video is a 'problem area' for me.  Oh, the flexer who wrote in about increasing
upper lip.  Until she builds it up, N.V. Perricone Cosmeceuticals has a great lip plumper that actually works well. He has a website (also at Clinical Creations)...most of his products contain Lipoic acid in lieu of glycolic acid.  He is a dermatologist.   Might be worth checking into.  I have been using the products a few weeks...does give softness and feels good.  For the person with 'leathery' skin (I, too use glycolic acid, but have not noticed any leathering...yet)...the best thing I have ever used to soften skin is plain old powdered milk..make a paste with it and your fav moisturizer and water.(I use Neutrogena Moisturizer) put on face till dry, rinse off.         Thx again for this site of yours.  Is great!!!

What to expect after one year?   Jun 29, 2000

Hi Deb,

I have a question for you. I will be coming to the one year mark in August. The results are great so far.:-) My question is ....  what to expect after one year?    I still feel I can use more improvement.  My skin  (tone and muscle) is not yet to the point where I would only want to keep it maintained. I am hoping that the lift and improvements will continue. Common sense tells me it should continue. It seems to me that my muscles are not developed to their maximum yet.  I guess I am asking because so much stress is put on the one year mark.    At this point my skin and muscles are just beginning to get to where I want them to be.  There has been a lot of improvement;  but as I said I would like to see more.   Have you seen noticeable improvements in  your students after a year has been reached?  Thanks Deb.

Eileen

Hi Eileen:

Your instincts are right on the money.  As we facebuild after the one year mark, we continue to improve the quality of the facial and neck tissue.   It stands to reason and fact, that the more we continue to "handle" our faces, the better they are going to get.

You have stated you see a significant improvement/difference in your face and neck after one year's facial building - well that's the point of the one year mark.   The face is firmer, lifted and the skin has improved. Marked improvement, palpable improvements, after one year's time are what we're going for.  But just as we work our bodies after one year and look in the mirror and say we look really great - there are definitely areas that still need improving.   It's no different in facebuilding.

I've still got areas I'm working on way after a year, but overall, I'm light years from when I first started.  I also know my face better - I can see and feel a difference.  That difference, those improvements, are what keep me going - because I know, that it's just going to keep getting better.

Also remember, everyone is different in there gains for various reasons.  Bottom line is, whatever your body's reaction time to facebuilding - whether it be slower than others or faster that others - doesn't matter - it's the fact that all that hard has paid off and will continue to keep paying off.

So don't get all caught up on that one year mark as the end all be all - it's just another mile marker on the road to looking even more fabulous.

Congratulations on your facebuilding success Eileen - it's just going to be getting better and better for you - promise.

Onward to the future - armed with the knowledge and experience we've acquired from our year of facial building, and significantly less atrophied than we were a year ago!   The only way is UP - Face UP that is!

Thanks Miss DEB!!!!

Olympia

New type of exercises   Jun 27, 2000

I got your video a month ago and have seen improvements...I do them on my breaks at work and at home...

I had a problem with my jaw and with these exercises my jaw line has improved...  and so have the sides of my face. How about some more and different exercises for the forehead.

I was wondering. since I also lift weights and I know from experience that you don't lift weights everyday or work the same muscles everyday because your muscles need time to rest does that principle also apply to the facial exercises?  I do them 6 times a week. Is it better to do them every other day or everyday at least at the beginning?     You can send me a response to my email address above...

Upper Lip Jun 24, 2000

Hi,Deb--

I have been using your program for about 6 months and the results are so great.   What a gift!

My question:  I am jealous of the person who said their upper lip is overbuilding.   This is the area (along with the furrows from nose to mouth) that are my current main interest.  My upper lip appears contracted and skimpy to me.  (I'm 53).   How come this area is not overbuilding for me?

I've been doing ...Top Furrow, Tight Upper Lip, Tight Upper Lip Adv, Lip Press

That's my question, Deb.

Here's just one (but my happiest) success story with FlexEffect. I had actual bags about one inch below my eyes about 1/2 inch in size.  They were puffy and swollen looking, as if filled with fluid.  I hated them and couldn't figure out what they were from.  They just appeared mysteriously a couple of years ago.   Well, after 2 weeks of FlexEffect, they were gone and I haven't seen them since.   This is the best thing!

Thanks so much for your help.

Nevermind   Jun 10, 2000

Hi Deb.

I've been looking forward to your call and hearing what you have to say but a couple of days ago I went for a drink with the woman who took the first photos. She said that I looked really good. When I said that I was getting discouraged because it didn't seem to be making any difference she said that, that was because it happens so gradually and that it definitely was making a difference. That's more of a compliment than you think because when she took the first photos she didn't know why I was doing it in the first place, because she thought that I looked a lot younger than her, and I'm actually older than her. Anyway, I'll get those photos developed and in three months I'll be at the one year mark. I'll send you the photos then and you can be the judge. But thank you very much for your offer to call and help. Your amazing.

Massage  May 28, 2000

I have just hit my 8 month mark and my 42nd birthday.  The look on everyone's faces at work when I told them how old I was was priceless! I just own the video, but have read postings regarding doing massage as well.  Would you share a bit about it?    Also, I have a scar on my right cheek from a car accident about 20 years ago.    I've noticed results on my left side, but the right side still seems saggy.    Does scar tissue inhibit the muscle from firming?

Thanks always for your attention.

Hi Lynne:

First let me just say congrats on hitting your 8 month mark!

Okay, the massage technique Deb has developed incorporates every area of the face and neck (ears too!) just as the resistance training regime does.

It's very heavy duty - in that it requires grasping tissue and really working it. It's a "great substitute"  for any day you may miss your resistance training or you can "incorporate portions of this regime into your daily workouts" (quote from Deb out of the manual).

The point of it is:  that the massage (the heavy duty handling of the face and neck tissues), stimulates even further blood flow to the facial and neck muscles and skin, thereby increasing oxygen to that area (cells in both skin and connective tissue),
increasing cellular turnover, stimulating collagen production, increasing the dermal layers of the skin (thickening the dermis),....etc ---it's cleansing as well and just plain old feels great! It further enhances the results we seek in our facial training.    The FlexEffect massage is just great adjunct to anyone's facial resistance trainingprogram.

Remember, "the more you handle your face, the better." (But you already know that from the results your facial resistance training has produced and the reactions of all those who see you.)  It just makes me so jazzed to hear that - I'm psyched for
you.

The FlexEffect Facial Massage can be found in the manual - if you're able too, you may want to purchase that next as a part of your FlexEffect training materials.

In a nutshell:  It's great, produces fabulous results and it feels wonderful - what more can I tell you.

In terms of addressing your question regarding scar tissue , I'm going to leave that part up to Deb our Guru, to answer when she returns, as I've not had experience with scar tissue and how that would effect muscle development.

You are doing so fabulous. Maybe at some point, you would share with everyone, what you've personally experienced over the past 8 months, any benchmarks at certain months, any awkward moments, when you yourself started to see the visible changes your training was producing in both building, and lifting of your facial muscles and the effects on your skin, etc.  I personally would love to hear about it.

Keep flexing - I know you will!

All my best,

Olympia

Crepe-like skin  May 28, 2000

Hi All,

This is my second post.

I'd like to share what appears to be working for me regarding crepe-like skin in the lower-lid area.

After experimenting with the various exercises that work the muscles around the eyes, and smiling after each exercise (while the muscles are still "buffed"),to see how each exercise affected my face, I realized that the muscles worked in the "Wink", "Crow's Feet", and the "Lower-Lid Lift" exercises, were the muscles that tightened the skin around my eyes. So I started doing those exercises twice a day (in addition to performing the other exercises once a day). In just two weeks, the crepe-like skin under my eyes has become less noticeable when I smile.

Also, these are the products I use. Nothing fancy.

Face, and neck sun protection:  Neutrogen Sunblock SPF 30 with Parsol 1789
Hands (this does wonders): Vaseline Intensive Care for Hands SPF 15 with Alpha-Hydrox (Comes in a small blue tube)

I also use Retin-A ONCE a week. I read somewhere that a 20-year-olds skin rejuvenates once every three weeks, so I figure once a week is more than enough.

Laura

Hi Laura:

You're right on the money when you say that you've noticed which exercises effect your lower eye and upper cheek area and how they have a positive effect on reversing the appearance of the creapy skin in that area.  You're smile test is a great way to test out what you've worked.  You're pumping up and challenging those muscles - so they are responding beautifully.  Fabulous!!!

I agree, if anyone can get in a twice a day workout just like you are, concentrating on their problem areas, it certainly gets one the results one wants all the more quickly - and for the most part, we all are pretty impatient when it comes to how soon we can see those results happen aren't we.  The good news is, and you've given us your testimonial on it - they DO HAPPEN! YEAH!

As long as we're consistent in our training and really "go for broke", the results come - no question.

Thank you for sharing your experience, continue to keep us posted on your training.

My best,
Olympia

Sets May 26, 2000 7

Hi All,

Wanted to share something that has been working for me. I'm doing *all* the exercises as Deb recommends. But for undereye and the line from nose to mouth corners (my particular problem
areas), I've been doing three sets of ten every day instead of the one set with all the other exercises. It has made a noticeable difference.

Sadie

Hi Sadie:

Talk about taking the bull by the horns - that's great!  Doing our 1 session of 10 hold count of 6 is highly effective, but 3 will definitely speed up the process big time.

Isn't great to know that if one takes an even more aggressive approach to facial building, the results happen all the more quickly?  Facial muscles are so responsive to resistance training, it continues to amaze me every time, and I have no doubts!

Thanks for sharing -  I know you've motivated so many out there!

My best,
Olympia

Developing deep frown lines May 18, 2000

Hi Deb,

I've been doing the exercises for almost 2 months and I have seen some positive changes (jowels are less noticeable and the gauntness in my face is filling out).  I still have alot of loose skin hanging off my face and neck from losing 60 pounds.  I'm hoping in time it will all tighten up.  In the mornings I have been noticing deep lines on the sides and bridge of my nose that I never had before.  I'm concerned that wrinkling my nose during the "nose lift" and "bridge of nose" exercises are causing these deep lines.  They do seem to become less noticeable as the day wears on.  Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Scilla

Hi Scilla

Don't worry about causing lines from your training ...NO SUCH THING. If you notice the lines first thing in the a.m. and fading out later in the day.. that is where your skin is folding during sleep. Keep going girl!

I'm Back!  May 6, 2000

Hello Deb, Olympia, Jason, everyone. . .

It's been quite a while since I've posted anything - partially because I was on business trips, working 16 hour days. Well, I'm in a transitional mode and have more time now. And that includes more time for FlexEffect . . . woopie!!

I never stopped exercising, though there were times I cut back as we all do when things get crazy. So here's the update.

I started flexing on a part time basis near end of last September and went full time by November. Like all of us, I had up and down periods where I thought I looked better, worse, hit plateaus, and so on. I even had times of doubt. Do I really look any better? Do I look worse? I think if we are all honest with ourselves, we go through these phases.

The good news is people are noticing the difference. That's when you know it works! I met up with a good friend who I hadn't seen in four months. She said my neck and face look firmer, more uplifted and my skin looks smoother! That same evening a man I've known for years said the same. The only concern I have (as I've seen on many recent posts), is that my under eyes have developed some lines that weren't there. I do have faith things will balance out. I've cut back on upper cheeks to alternate days and
have increased under eye exercises to twice a day. What do you think Deb, Olympia, Jason . .and all of you who have experienced this?

I'm 53 years old and pass for 38 to 43. If I can remain looking this young for some years to come, I'll be thrilled. In any case, I've been showing all my friends how to do the exercises. It's fun. I am even showing my roommate (a 33 year old man) how to flex preventatively. He may be ordering the video. I have the book - so we'll share.

Love you all. I promise to not be a strange stranger anymore. . as strange as that sounds.

Idelle

Hi Idelle

Glad you're back!  Working the eyes twice a day may cause a little puffiness but no harm (lines). Go ahead and give it a shot.   Thanks for the up date.

Missed ya;-)

Hiatus    May 3, 2000

Hi all

I am back from a long hiatus from the board. I plain old ran out of time and had to stop the long version of the program but continued doing the mouth and eye work. I am slowly getting back into it. I started backing off all of the forehead and bridge of nose exercises since I started overbuilding my eye brow area and noticed that the lines in the areas I was most concerned with got worse. I have seen that Deb has addressed this issue with others and suggests both backing off and doing exercises on the
areas you are NOT so worried about. Any words of wisdom about the forehead/bridge of nose area? I am desperate to see some change. I am pleased with the other areas of my face but just not that one. I find that the surprised expression (in scalp flex and brow smoother) seems to make those semi circle lines much more apparent. Any one have the same experience or have a solution for me? thanks for putting up with my woes. I hope to get back into a good training rhythm. Job and family have been very demanding lately!

Megan

Hi Megan!

Glad your back!  If you are going to back of Scalp Flex / Brow Smoother be sure to constantly do the massage for that area...the tissue still needs the challenge.

Cheek exercises    May 2, 2000

I'm trying to fill out the hollows of my cheeks to reduce the "gaunt" look I'm getting as I get older.   I have high, prominent cheekbones.  It seems as though all the upper-cheek exercises I've been doing (together with the chin-building exercises) are actually making my face look MORE gaunt.  Should I cut back on these (once, twice a week?) and concentrate only on the lower cheek exercises???

Ann

Hi Ann

It sounds to me like what you are after has to do more with shape than lift.  Back off  WINK, CHEEK RAISER and CHIN LIFT.  For the Cheek area concentrate on CHEEK PRESS, NOSE LIFT.   and for the jaw line and mouth concentrate on LOWER LIP CURL -ADV.  Let me know how this goes for you.

Deb
