Flexing and weightloss May 19, 2001

Im planning to go on a diet to lose weight (a good amount)..and i was wondering if whether i would loose only the fat on my face, or would i lose the muscle as well? Would the muscle be the last to go and would the fat disappear first? I dont want my months of flexing to melt away.....

Hi Jennifer

You can't lose muscle by dieting...no way, no how. Muscles, in general, can lose tone from lack of exercise, but they don't disappear. I think you'll be fine. Your face might change from the weight loss, but you won't lose muscle. Keep flexing...

Lynne

Hi Jennifer

If you have been and continue to exercise your face during wt loss, you will not lose the muscle. Depending upon how quickly you lose the wt, however, you might see some sagging skin until
it is able to catch up. To avoid losing muscle during wt loss you need to incorporate a wt lifting program. This is especially important in people over 30, but really at any age it is important.  Don Lemmon has an excellent wt loss program that incorporates wt training. You might want to look at it before you embark on any other diet.  I have used it myself very successfully and I highly recommend it.  Actually, his dieting plan is becoming very mainstream as more and more people are
exposed to it. I been reading in the Weider publications about their "tips" for wt loss and was surprised to see that it very very closely resembles Don's.

Naso-labial folds Apr 15, 2001

I just started flexing.  Today will be my fourth day and I can already tell a difference...not so much by looking in the mirror, but when I touch my face it feels firmer and I think I'll have a jaw line again in no time.  When I look in the mirror however, I can see the area that really needs a lot of work is the line between the nose and corner of the mouth.  I have lost a lot of weight and there is considerable draping which makes this fold very prominent.  I have the video and do the top furrow, but are there any other exercises I can do?

Hi Cindy

The top furrow is one of the most stubborn areas (along with the frown lines) to alleviate. I have greatly reduced mine but they still remain slightly. The important thing is be patient and consistent. I often will work the furrow by placing my thumbs up under them then contracting the muscle while pulling out with my thumbs. This has helped tremendously. Hold for a count of six and repeat 10 times.  I generally hold my counts much longer but start out with the above first.

Weight loss and age to begin  Feb 24, 2001

I am 30 years old and 300 pounds. I know that I have to lose weight and know that there is not going to be anything easy about it. I tried the quick fixes and I am READY for some serious exercize. Everytime I read a success story of someone who has lost alot of weight the women ALL look older than they really are. Would this program prevent that from happening? I would also like to know if would hurt my eleven year old to do them. We are starting an exercize program together (she's my coach) and she likes to do what I do. THANKS for any help you can give me.

Hi Christie!

Go for it Christie.  The greatest thing about anything is positive attitude and shared participation...and you sound like you have major perseverence!!!   winning combo!!! good luck, you are going to feel so good about yourself!  I am sure Jason will give more detail on weight loss and effects on skin and how you can expect to progress. He is very good support group all by himself! .........and he is HONEST AND REALISTIC.
Jean

Hi Christie,

Yes flexing will help; however, depending upon how quickly you lose the wt will determine how the skin sags. Since you are only 30 years old, your skin will rebound fairly well. The body does not tolerate loose skin and will eventually absorb it. It's not until we get some age on us that it doesn't "shrink" back like it would when we were younger. I would advise that since you're considering significant wt loss that you do have a physical first, just to make sure that you're healthy. There are many diets out there as you've discovered. DON'T "DIET". Make a lifestyle change. Find an eating habit you can live with and stick with it forever. I lost 40 lbs about three years ago and have kept every bit of it off. BUT I eat nothing like what I used to. Good luck! It will be an exciting journey.

Gotta do something soon!  Jan 20, 2001

Well, I finally did it. This morning I stood naked in front of the full length mirror in the bedroom with all the lights on.  I figured if nothing else would jolt me into doing something about the way I look that should do it!  I'm still recovering from the shock. What happened to that trim, chisel-faced guy I used to see? After a diet and half-hearted excercise program last year, I've managed to regain 20 pounds.  Worse yet, I'm definitely starting to look my age (45 next month). I see the beginnings of
jowls and a little "turkey waddle" under the chin (probably not helped by the weight loss/weight gain.  I have a new career which I enjoy, a supportive and fulfilling relationship and enjoy excellent health. I have been thinking a lot about a full commitment to changing my health habits and finally getting back
in shape. I think I deserve to look as good as I feel. The face is another matter. I have been in this website several times and even corresponded with Jason at the time and then forgot about
proceeding. I'm ready now. I am heartened by the testimonials and support this group offers each other and am convinced I can get results too with a little hard work.   With all the "internal" gains I've made in the last few years I figure it's time to work on the package the good stuff is wrapped in...gonna place my order today...I'll keep everyone posted as to my progress...

Congrats!!!!  The first hurdle is behind you! Truly, weight loss and fitness is a lifestyle change and only by looking at it as such will you prevent the yoyo of loss and gain. Good luck Tom!

Lines from dimples Oct 23, 2000

Hi everybody.  I've been flexing for over 2 months and am seeing nice improvements.  My entire face is firmer, forehead is fleshier, lips are fuller and more defined, neck skin is firmer, circles under my eyes are reduced.   Its great and thank you for sharing your secret!

My question:   Over the last year I've lost almost 40 pounds which is wonderful, but my face
is much thinner now and somehow my dimples have become 2 long indentations going all the way down to my chin.  Any additional exercises that will help
this?

Sagging jowls   Oct 8, 2000

I have lost a lot of weight and my body is looking great, however, I look so much older.  I have sagging jowls.  Help!  Can anything be done to lift them again????

Kate

Hi Kate!

Congratulations on your weight loss!! If you've lost the weight recently, there is going to be a period of time, depending on how much wt loss you've had, where your body will reabsorb loose skin. The excess fat will have stretched the skin. Depending on your age, you may have atrophied facial muscles as well. Since you're having problems with jowling after wt loss, I'm going to assume you're in the second half of your 40s or older.

FlexEffect has quite a number of exercises for this area. I would recommend that you purchase Deb's video first to get the basic exercises and be able to actually see her perform them. After you
have mastered the 22 or so exercises on the video, you may want to advance to the book for the complete 40.

Good luck!

Sagging face due to weight loss  Jul 22, 2000

Hi,

I've just recently lost 95lbs!  In doing so my face is sagging.  I'm 35 and after losing the weight, I now look a lot older.  I don't know where to begin.   Is there some exercises I can do to get my skin to go back?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Gloria

Hi Gloria

Congratulations!   First of all...  know that even if you don't get involved with facialbuilding,  at your age you shouldn't have any problems shrink wrapping over a period of time.  But, there is much you can do to speed things up.  Scroll down the board, you'll find several exercises to get you started.  Give yourself a couple of weeks and see what you think!  Again, at your age your body can handle the weight loss (bounce back) but what is even more important when it comes to your face is 'prevention'. Those who are lucky enough to be in that stage are way ahead of the game!

Flabby Chin     April 27, 1999

Over the past 8 months I've lost quite a bit of weight through strength training and good nutrition.  However, the skin under my chin looks horrible.  I'm not into cosmetic surgery  Are there
exercises that will remedy this?  This is really bugging me!

Judy

Hi Judy

Unfortunately whenever you lose a substantial amount of weight this can happen, but given time, the skin usually catches up. If I drop a lot of weight, regardless of the amount of facialbuilding … same thing. While you are waiting, you need to GO AFTER IT!

You say you are into weightlifting so I don’t need to tell you just how easy it is to build the neck. In fact there are some people I feel need to take the day off! (no neck)

HEAD LIFT

BS00847A.gif (3051 bytes)sorry, time's up.

You also need to massage your neck, and don’t be afraid to be aggressive.

Thanks for asking and keep me posted.
